Now then. I say "USB" and what springs to mind? Something cutesy/useful/useless, rather like these offerings. Well, peripherals firm Thanko, masters of coming up with things that you add on to your computer that you never thought you'd need, have come up with a zinger. It's a $165, 80-hub port, which begs the question: do you have 80 gadgets to charge? I don't think I've even got eight!

Am i the only one thinking that most of those ports wont work with powered devices... the power will be split amongst the 80 ports...

I can think of some really good uses for this:
- Bulk loading thumb sticks with the recording of the live gig you've just seen (Already being done)
- USB charged "Walk and listen" devices in museums.

Only if it is a powered add-on would I use it. A bit fearful of the size of it. Would like to see something like that built into a desk or bookshelf.

Its powered - thats the three connectors along the top. Then it looks like there are a set of 8 USB header connectors probably serving the column of USB ports below it. So I'm guessing this is an 80 into 10 USB aggregator aimed at system builders who may want to do say a huge USB raid array.
Humm. 80 thumb drives in an raid array. That might be fun!

An 80 thumb drive raid array would only transfer to each thumb drive at 1/80 of the full USB rate.

Just think of all the tacky/pointless/annoying USB gadgets you could plug into it!

Does it ship with a 30,000-watt power supply to retrofit your desktop with?
By Galane at 5:21 AM ON 02/12/10
It'd only need a 40 amp power supply to provide the 500 miliamps per port to meet the USB specification. ;)
