SCOPE augmented reality system reveals the future of gaming
France-based game designer Frantz Lasorne has created what may be the new standard for next generation games. His experimental, augmented reality game system called SCOPE takes real world toys and/or objects and assigns values and powers to those objects.
Each piece has a different code platform attached that is readable by a connected computer. When the gamer dons the specially configured headset, the objects become fully interactive, allowing for a whole new range of gaming paradigms to be explored. made sufficiently portable, with WiFi hookups an battery packs, this could do what no innovation has been able to accomplish... make LARPing cool.
By overlaying weapon/gear/Spell effects over real scenery, you could realistically have teams battling it out in an arena that would make laser tag look as low-tech as dodgeball.

Imagine a game of D&D where you place your miniature on the battlemat, and the head mounted display shows spell/weapon ranges, darkvison, fog of war, etc.

You know what? MatthiasF may have a point... maybe this is why I am having a hard time with accepting motion controls in games. Nothing will make your family rip a Wii off the TV and into a closet faster, than video taping them playing it when they aren't looking.

@Matthias, you can never make LARPing cool. But you can make it more fun. But of course you can't know just how incredibly lame LARPing is until you have done it yourself. So obviously I have only one question.
Was it vampire or werewolf that made you realize how much it sucked?

Wow. So basically the core concept behind Japanese anime Dennou Coil is being developed into a real toy? I was waiting. Then again, in that show it kills children after over integration breeds complacency. Hm.
