Is there a Google-branded netbook on the way? Google's been talking about working with a variety of manufacturers to be sure its Chrome OS runs well, but now multiple sources are saying Google will hire an unnamed netbook maker to build a device specifically for Chrome OS, working from a recipe of Google's detailed tech specs.
We might be seeing such a refined gBook by next Christmas. By then, there will even more tiny and powerful processors from which to choose, giving this net-connected laptop plenty of oomph.
This is a great idea, Google. Like Apple, when you have control over both the hardware and the software, near-perfect integration is possible. On the other hand, naysayers might argue that hardware is not part of Google's core competency. But this is not about Google making hardware — it's about control. Either way, if Google makes it cheap, and might just be a big hit.

Yes, we all love fascism. Fascism is so efficient and cool. Control freaks know what's best for everyone.

Yet, when Microsoft preinstalls their own browser... they get their ass sued off for being anti-competitive.

@mihos
that's because Microsoft doesn't actually make the computer. This article is talking about a Google branded computer, like an Apple branded computer.
@MatthiasF
Don't we still have the choice to buy these items? Not exactly Fascism.

Under Fascism the trains run on time. And as long as it is only a computer and not our government, military corporations, I am having trouble seeing the downside to techno-fascism.
It's like complaining about a sadistic baseball-bat. Or a cruel knife.

@mihos: the problem maybe that you have some "implants" on the eyes and you can't see all around, except in front of you.
The difference here is: Google makes an OS, a browser and a machine and build it as a product. If you don't like it, don't buy it. As simply as that.
You have other machine brands around you.
But try to buy a PC without Windows, IE and other bloatware made by Moko$oft! It is difficult, you know?
Try to look around, pal.
