Wii Baby is the creepiest Wii accessory yet

Wii Baby is the creepiest Wii accessory yet

The Baby and Me Wii game isn't your average video game aimed at young girls. No, this one comes with a baby doll that you can cram your Wiimote inside. The game can then, apparently, detect just how well you're cradling that baby. Or shaking it, I assume.

The game also supports the Wii Balance Board, so you can rock the baby to sleep. This is the age we live in, folks: where baby dolls are hooked up to video game systems. It is what it is, I guess.

You cram the Wiimote in its what(!) now? I see the next software title to come out for this doll... "SVU: Daddy touched me here..."

By dion1701 at 9:11 PM ON 11/02/09

I really do not see the issue here? I have a little girl (6) and I really think she will love this. You know 6 years ago I might have ripped this idea apart, but little girls change your perspective! In a world were they have baby dolls that eat, crap and even give birth - this is not that bad! Now if the baby came with an MP40 we would be talking! It could be a noob born!

By menotyou at 9:59 AM ON 11/03/09

I'm sorry dion1701 my angle is slightly different when it comes to baby doll's.

I believe that encouraging little girls to want 'babies' is part of the problem we currently are facing with Earth's over population. And aside from that, why would you want your little girl to be so involved with having a baby at such a young age anyway?
With all respect, would you be so happy if she came home, age ten maybe, and said "Mummy I'm gonna have a real baby".
You may well be upset about this, but she may just think its perfectly normal considering she was allowed to play with toy babies from such a young age and may even consider that you would be more than happy with this.

Perhaps I am bias as I have all boys lol but still, my point is valid here.
Baby doll's serve no purpose other than to promote sex at an early age. This game, well..... its laughable to think that Nintendo will actually make money with this nonsense.

By menotyou at 10:18 AM ON 11/03/09

Also agreeing with Realist's comment above.
This has got to be peado heaven right?!
Not even the average, almost normal type of peado, this will attract the nastiest and sickest of them.

I mean, this toy is the direct image of a real baby. C'mon device, I think you need to remove this item, and so do Nintendo.

Having thought on this some more, I think its disgusting

By pinky at 10:24 AM ON 11/03/09

Right, so having games where you slaughter everything that moves is fine, but a game that is a baby doll is creepy? You're pretty weird, guys.

By iena77 at 10:44 AM ON 11/03/09

Maybe if said violent games came with a dummy that you have to stab or shoot or whatever then you could draw that comparasion Pinky. I think this is sick and creepy and should totally be withdrawn.

By menotyou at 11:03 AM ON 11/03/09

exactly!!
An incomparable comparison Pinky.

If left4dead actually came with a life size zombie doll which you had to stab, punch shoot and mame, then you would have a point. Sadly it doesn't, and your point is invalid.
And to put me in the same context as violent game players!! pfft!!
I don't play games... I'm an adult.

By pinky at 11:29 AM ON 11/03/09

You are so wrong ... the wii was so popular because it has nice games like this whereas the other consoles were mainly games based on bloodthirsty violence. They are the creepy ones.

By iena77 at 11:41 AM ON 11/03/09

Um... Pinky... do some research before you make a comment: http://uk.gamespot.com/wii/action/cursedmountain/review.html

To the comment about the peado's, I would rather them be home jacking off to a video game that wasnt real rather than trolling the streets for my daughter. ALSO, if they didnt use this doll for their purposes I am sure they could find something at a kids toy store for the same thing.
About the idea of real life like dolls making girls want babies, well then maybe we should just give our little girls toy guns and knives instead then they'll just want to shoot and stab people instead of wanting babies. All little girls like baby dolls, wether they are real life like or not, besides if the child doesnt take care of it correctly then I am pretty sure it will show on the game and the baby will be screaming and make the said child stressed and frustrated enough to turn the game off. Also its more the parenting and how(or if) you talk to your children about sex and consequences thereof. If you cant properly teach your child to be responsible, then THAT is the problem not a game or a doll they had as a kid. JMO
About the violent video games, I remember back when I was in school that the parents and officials in my town had a fit when they found out that some kids had made a DOOM game replica of the middle school in the game. Then they went around and shot ppl in the game that was the exact computerized map of the local middle school.
These games encourage children to point and use the wiimote as a real gun, so it is pretty much the same type of thing. Tell me you dont point the thing at the tv like a gun, or make real life like moves when using a sword. Still learing how to use weapons and how to kill people or things. Shoot look at halo, ten year olds get online in their bedrooms and spend hours shooting other people and saying some pretty horrible stuff that I am sure if their mothers heard they would have their butts beat.
Its a game, if you have a problem with it dont buy it. Thats all there is to it.

WoW!! it's a toy....humans....wtf

By Sir Cob at 7:10 PM ON 11/03/09

Dolls have been used by humans from our very beginnings. Every year that goes by and advances are made in fabrics, plastics, and tech - dolls evolve with them.

It is a normal thing for children to play with dolls. Boys and girls. People don't their boys growing up as killers but they buy them what boys usually want - weapons. And whether they're out in the sunlight playing cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians - or inside playing Spartans and Covenant (Halo) - they're going to play at war. Same with girls - Tea parties, playing house, playing mommy with a doll - or inside on the Wii playing virtual shake the baby on the Wii.

As for pedophiles - where the hell do you think pedos are going to use this game? thats a reach - anyone, of any sexual orientation, can find any object and make it sexual. Sex is not inherent in this game. The fact that a baby is a [product of sex does not mean that little girls that play with dolls will grow up to have sex earlier - no REPUTABLE research that has been done has ever shown that to be true.

All you guys prove is that we live in an age where everyone thinks they're a psychologist because they watch Dr. Phil and know who Freud is.

Also, a child could ask to have a baby after the Mom does - or even ask to help make a baby because they don't understand. BE a good parent and TEACH them - don't be offended by a game or a toy that may spark curiosity or an opportunity to allow the parent to teach their children about what it means to be human.

If the baby would cry when its needs are not being met (diaper changes, feedings, holding etc)and not stop crying until they are, it may make some older children realize that having a baby is alot of work and not all fun and games.

By menotyou at 12:49 AM ON 11/05/09

Well, I would say that (missing words aside Sir Cob) these arguments above are valid and yes a large degree of parental perspective comes into this equation.
I for one have four sons, and to date they are not allowed to play with weapons of any sort and neither are they allowed to play violent games. I don't have daughters, but have many younger sisters to call experience from.

BTW I don't watch Dr Phil. Or any other nonsense on that gogglebox.

The argument on Peado's. Okay they will find what ever instrument to create their desired result, but thats aside from my point that this 'toy' has the possibility to encourage young kids (particularly boys) into pedophilia. After all it is a baby, and it will have a slot. And where that slot is I really don't want to know, but suffice to say it must be somewhere discreet.
Now I can't speak for any others here or anywhere else, but I am male and I know exactly what I was like as a teenager, most teenager boys think of only one thing, I think that statement we can agree on. I believe the saying is 'any holes a goal' or something similar.
With four boys in my house I would have this toy no where near them!
Perhaps that is very strict of me, but that's me.

As for the argument about said toy being a possible tool for early sexual awareness, and properly discussing the nature of sex to your children.
The box says 3+ Do you seriously want your kids to know anything at all about sex at the age of 3yrs?
c'mon! behave!
This raises a whole new subject of; At what age is it proper to begin raising awareness of sex and sexuality to your children?
Far too lengthy a topic for now I'm sure, but I hope you can agree that 3+ is much too young for any of my kids.

The last argument about little girls always having played with dolls.
Why is this a good thing? Who is to say that its always been right? Possibly the same people that sold our Son's toy guns and swords?
Lo and behold, our youths are stabbing and shooting, while their teenage female counterparts are having babies far too young to even understand what they're doing.
Respect to all here of course, but I have to say you need to wake up and not be sold out by commercial rot, advertised by huge corporations. To which they've done so since toy shops first sprang up!

Consider;
If your child asked you for a handicapped person in teddy bear form, would you say yes in order to teach the child the nature of disabilities?
Nah, me neither. So why a pretend baby? or indeed a pretend gun?

Okay, I'm not a bitter person lol although it may sound it. I just enjoy a good debate and this subject came up.
I would say that if anyone doesn't like my comments, please ignore and move on without rude interjections.

By Rengaw at 9:48 AM ON 11/05/09

I don't see anything wrong with little girls having baby dolls hooked up to video game consoles or not, if you give a child a baby kitten or baby rabbit do you believe it would make them want to give birth to one of them, your just being over protective and parinoid because we live in such a twisted world full of news headlines of people who do wierd crap, a child at that age doesn't have any sexual knowledge or care about the mechanics of sex attached to such a toy, all they care about is that it's cute and fun to make believe they have something to play with that distracts them knowly or not from all the wierd stuff adults and teen project on them, i think people who become wierd and strange stuff are the ones who's parents were like the parinoid people who protest this kind of healthy make believe and so their minds are left for the strange things they grow up believing are normal, i played with a ken doll and GiJo dolls as a boy but it didn't make me want to have sex or anything of a sort, they were fun to play with is about all i remember and i turned out normal non-interested in strange habits or fetish stuff, so just relax and let kids be kids, Nintendo is not my favorite video game console but they sure know how to market their products for kids.

By Hellpop at 3:36 PM ON 11/05/09

Hide all the babies! Young girls may see them and want to have sex!
Better yet, let's ban reproduction! It may give children the wrong idea.

You whack jobs never cease to amaze or amuse me...

By menotyou at 6:22 PM ON 11/05/09

@Hellpop
So you are okay with the level of teenage pregnancies? and want to do nothing at all about it?
Removing this item and others like it from the market will not stop it at all, not even close. But would be one step towards that ideal.

Human evolution has been stunted, people. Don't you see the damage done to our future, just from a simple thing as this?
It is many variables that make up the whole equation, not just one or two and for us to continue upon an evolutionary path, similar to that before we encountered technological advancement, we must make major changes to the way we live our day-to-day lives.
ie - changing the 'changeable' variables in the equation.

Also, calling people "whack jobs" during a serious discussion makes your contribution inert. Suggesting that you don't actually understand fully the arguments being made.

By Sir Cob at 12:28 PM ON 11/06/09

menotyou,

This is from planned parenthood.com:
"When's the Best Time to Start Talking with My Children About Sex and Sexuality?

It's best to start as soon as children begin getting sexual messages. And they start getting them as soon as they're born. Children learn how to think and feel about their bodies and their sexual behavior from things we do and say — from the way we hold them, talk to them, dress them, teach them the words for their body parts, give them feedback on their behavior, and behave in their presence."

Your sexual organs are just that - sexual organs. A child feels almost the same sensation as an adult from the same places - however, the association the child has is not the same an adult does. A child may self-stimulate at a very young age, indeed many babies do - but that simulation is the child discovering their bodies, not a sexual act. How the parent reacts to this and educates the child about their body is how the child will understand the physical feeling emotionally and psychologically.

Many people assume that they protect their children by removing physical objects that may stimulate unwanted behavior, what ever behavior that may be. However, the child is left with nothing but themselves as a compass. Is that ok?

Playing with a baby doll or a toy gun isn't the issue - it is how the child is taught to respond to the objects. -- Talking about sexuality, the later a person receives sexual education, the more likely they are to become a sexual deviant or have unhealthy sexual habits. (This of course is the same case with violent behavior)

I myself can remember being a very very young boy and my mother talking to me about sex - and I was also raised to understand (not necessary believe) "sex after marriage." It wasn't shoved down my throat but instead I was given the information and a nudge in the right direction.

- "as for any hole is a goal" - you better keep covers on your drains, plugs, keyholes, peepholes, cat, dog, milk carton, tape up their hands, take away their teddy bears, make them sleep with no covers, sew up the hole in their underwear, and where ever else you can find them holes. That is just crazy. Sorry to poo on this bit of parental choice - but man! a boy will find a way eventually. Unless you plan on watching them 24/7, they'll find a way to discover their bodies and what they are made for (yes, your penis was made to have sex with, not a test by god to see if we have control over ourselves -I know you didn't say that, but it is a thought among people that express the same mentality you have on your previous post). Best to just explain the sensation to them then have to deal with a child who still continues the very natural act of exploring one's own body, but now has a psychological guilt complex about doing so. --

Teen pregnancy has been dropping since the early 90's

Kids have been playing with dolls since the dawn of time.

If you are the kind of person who wants to have this item removed then you are also probably in favor of burning books. Its a free country...if you don't like it, don't buy it...and shut up.

By Sir Cob at 12:40 PM ON 11/06/09

About the game's controller attatchment:

The game is bundled with an elastic strap that allows you to put Wii-mote on ANY doll - works like a belt. Hell, you could even strap it to a plank of wood.

If you want to use the doll that come with the game - the slot for the controller will likely be in a rectangle impression on its back or belly. All Wii attachement require that they be able to click into the attatchment - not be inserted. This is to avoid accidental damage to the buttons on the remote.

By Sir Cob at 12:46 PM ON 11/06/09

--- I'm sorry, as soon as I posted I thought of something.

you can use the remote's elastic belt to fit any doll. Why not strap it to the baby Jesus. This way all of you parents afraid of your children violating this doll can cause your children to have a "good christian experience" with this game instead of an evil sexual one.

By Rob at 4:05 PM ON 11/06/09

but in truth you know how we keep saying some ppl should be examined before having kids well this would be one way...yep thats the only positive note on this one...

The market will decide whether this product survives or not. Some very strange, disturbing, & bizarre comments & reactions to this Wii Baby. Think I'll let my dogs out to make sure none of you are on my property, lol.

By new hidden object games at 10:55 PM ON 11/08/09

I'm not going to let my kids have this. Too early for motherly instincts. lol

By Anonymous at 1:28 PM ON 11/09/09

@menotyou
I am absolutely fine with the current level of teen pregnancy. I believe in personal responsibility and believe more people need to take responsibility for themselves and their offspring. Children respond more to examples of responsibility by their parents than they will to toys. Why don't you go burn any books that mention sex while you are trying to sterilize children's minds?

For the record, no coments I make invalidate my discussion. A spade is a spade, and sometimes a cigar really is just a cigar. Same goes for dolls. It's a free country, so by all means, ignore me if you don't like what I say, but pretending my opinion doesn't matter because you disagree with my observations of your ilk, is just wrong. Everyone's opinion matters, regardless of what they bring(or don't bring) to the table.
