More evidence of smaller iPhone on Verizon?

More evidence of smaller iPhone on Verizon?

The rumor mill's cranking up once again about that smaller iPhone, and this time the story goes that it will have a 2.8-inch screen instead of the current 3.5" display. Apple Insider reports the unconfirmed report from an industry analyst that Verizon Wireless will be rolling out this new iPhone in the third quarter of 2010.

The upcoming handset will allegedly use a dual-system chip from Qualcomm, able to operate on both GSM/UMTS network of AT&T and T-Mobile as well as the CDMA network of Verizon and Sprint. It's an intriguing rumor, but a lot can happen in nine months.

I just got the Motorola Droid! It's ten times better than that iPhone IMHO.

By yashiro at 12:22 PM ON 11/09/09

China's fake iphone is about that size, anyways Android phone IS cooler with more useful apps.

By DeviceCritic at 1:13 PM ON 11/09/09

Yeah cooler if you like putting brick up to your face. So you have 10 apps big deal!

By tbone0726 at 1:16 PM ON 11/09/09

What's with all the Iphone haters..keep dreaming people, the droid will die just like all the others..better luck next time.!

By DeviceCritic at 1:24 PM ON 11/09/09

tbone0726, well put. Just ask Palm and their Pre which was supposed to be the iphone killer. Avoid the Drold!

By rawker at 1:41 PM ON 11/09/09

without a major update will anyone care? the iphone is still using that 2year old clumsy interface.

By DeviceCritic at 1:50 PM ON 11/09/09

Funny how that 2yo interface is being modeled by more and more device manufactures. Not saying its perfect but touch controlled interfaces are all the rage today.

By Brocker at 2:11 PM ON 11/09/09

with Android being open source it will live longer then iphone ever dreamed, sorry but iphone is goin to take a major hit from the droid... not saying it will kill iphone but iphone has some major competition now

By Monty at 3:13 PM ON 11/09/09

the good thing about the droid phones is that they don't have the crappy motorola OS behind..... man their UI sux!

I tried the droid and it is VERY slick.....
just waiting for my At&t iPhone contract to complete and over I go.

It was nice having a iphone, but it's full capability is reached only after you jb it and customize.

By DeviceLover at 3:32 PM ON 11/09/09

Well, there should be competition in the market. Then only consumers will get benefited. Looks like things are moving in the right direction.

Its not about who love or who hate! After all its just a phone.

By TxSleeper at 3:37 PM ON 11/09/09

I understand why there are people who WANT to see another company produce an iPhone-killer phone, just like when they stated they can see a Mac going away by other computer makers making "better" clones of the Macs...

Keep in mind it takes a real innovator to produce something that's been well engineered to Begin with. Any company can copy and paste together something that appears to be better. However, it takes a solid company like Apple to combine the technology needed to drive what makes the whole that is the iPhone Work the way it does.

By GeekChef at 3:45 PM ON 11/09/09

I think we all know that Apple is not about to sit on their haunches while other developers come out with iPhone killer products. I'm quite sure as an iPhone user that there will be a new phone, OS and more features that will expand the already significant market share Apple has now.. It's just a matter of time. As to the Droid, I'm sure it's very cool though some of the reviews show it's weak spots of which ANY device will have some.. My 2.1766548 cents worth, LOL

By Rayvin at 6:10 PM ON 11/10/09

I am an iPhone user and I love the fact that the droid is awesome. To compete the droid has to be cool. So Google comes out with a killer app. They came out with a turn by turn GPS that's better than the ones on the market, and it's free. It takes competition to keep this snowball rolling and I’m happy as a clam to see the droid come out… Go Google, Go Rim (Blackberry), Go Apple… Give me STUFF! I LIKE IT!!

By JPVIDEO at 7:57 AM ON 11/12/09

Sorry APPLE...DROID rules!

By gr8n8tr0n at 9:13 AM ON 11/12/09

It's all about the network and where you live IMHO. Depending on where you live, if you travel or not, will depend on the carrier you pick. I love the iPhone. I love the Droid. Now people on both networks have a phone that will provide them what is needed. Open source, tends to mean free apps, so I welcome the free apps.

By moosegoose at 10:24 AM ON 11/12/09

The Droid is great as long as you don't have a problem not being able to lookup email addresses from your corporate exchange server. It has no functionality for GAL. But hey, who need the GAL and email when Google Navigation can let me drive to where I want to go. Oh yeah, and it weighs as much as my 2 year old.

By JJ at 10:35 AM ON 11/12/09

A SMALLER SCREEN??? That is not a plus in my book.

I do hope that the next iPhone keeps its larger screen and INCREASES the resolution. Then, I would buy an iPhone.

For teens and 20's, any phone that is cool is, well, cool. Android, Pre, Storm II, etc. But, as long as those Apps keep coming out for iPhone/Touch, then users for those aps will use that OS. You have Network Engineers that use their iPhones (with apps) as a portable PC to access other networks, you have pastors using Logos Bible Study software to study Greek and Hebrew texts on the go, you have CAD/CAM engineers working with iPhone now. Those apps will drive sales and increase users, not how cool the phone is

By BigBadWolf at 11:10 AM ON 11/12/09

Cool factor aside it all comes down to what works best for you and meets your needs. Now if could only sell that line to my 15 year-old daughter. She is all about the cool and to her it happens to be a Blackberry and not the Storm.

By masimons at 11:54 AM ON 11/12/09

A poster is evidence ?
A world phone would make perfect sense, but if anything the screen should be slightly bigger, and more res, preferably OLED too.

Sure maybe a smaller screen for the Asia market.

By i910crazy at 12:10 PM ON 11/12/09

I use a Windows Mobile 6.1 device, I use dozens of free apps out of tens of thousands that are available and I have customized the so-called "closed" OS significantly using popular mainstream programs to make it do whatever tricks I like.

The general public frequently chooses to popularize technology for the wrong reason (VHS vs. Betamax) and often likes their devices dumbed down.

I can run applications I find on the internet written by anyone and I don't have to have approval from Microsoft, Verizon or anyone else. iPhone users can't use anything that isn't OK'd by Apple and AT&T without hacking the OS, which Apple and AT&T have threatened legal action against..

Microsoft faced a DOJ probe for trying to prevent competing products from running on their operating system on a home PC. I wonder how long it will be before a similar probe is launched over Apple's smartphone?

By FireStorm69 at 7:52 PM ON 11/12/09

I agree with i910 crazy! I've got a Samsung Omnia i910 with Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro and it is the best phone I've ever owned! It has a 5 megapix camera and like he said, I can run thousands of free apps or write my own and never need approval to do so! I love this phone, just got it last week and I had an HTC Touch previously and that's what sold me on getting another Windows phone.

I like the iPhone, but I don't like having to use iTunes and the app store for all my programs or to become a developer I have to pay for it. The Droid is an awesome phone, but I'm waiting a while until I'm sure all the bugs are worked out of it and the price drops some. For now, I'll just stick with my beautiful Windows Mobile Phone.

By Qinsider at 10:00 AM ON 11/13/09

I am going to check out the Droid, maybe switch, but certainly will not get a new iPhone if its using the qualcomm chip set. long story short, qualcomm is evil, i would advise everyone to avoid their products.
