Could Michael Jackson return as a hologram?

Could Michael Jackson return as a hologram?

Broken yesterday, the story that Michael Jackson had his body scanned back in the '90s presents a number of interesting possibilities, particularly since there's a big push for 3D video tech right now. Still, let's not get too excited. We don't know exactly what these images include, but it seems unlikely that they're anything like concert footage that's shot specifically for 3D. As reported, the images were meant to help create some kind of "virtual double" of Jackson, much the same way that special effects for movies like Spider-Man were created. Creating some kind of 3D concert video from that would be a big leap.

Still, for an artist as popular as Jackson was, it's not hard to imagine someone dedicating the resources to make that leap. With some progress in holographic tech, and even more intriguing idea would be to recreate a real-live Jackson concert with a Jackson hologram as the main attraction. Given how much lip-synching goes on in today's pop, would a full-on virtual performer be much of a stretch? Or just too macabre in this case? Whatever happens, you can bet the images won't end up in a green screen challenge (though we can hope).

Only if he could make some money.

Disney's "Pixel Perfect" anyone?

By Old Man Dotes at 2:54 PM ON 11/13/09

Why? I could see bringing back Einstein, or Nat King Cole, or Mother Theresa, or Walt Disney, but Michael Jackson?

By wdwyer at 3:17 PM ON 11/13/09

Yes, now he can "allegedly" molest little boys in pixel form! Enough already, I didn't like the guy, but even I have had enough of the raping of his image for money.

Bear in mind people this is a body scan they are talking about. While they can use it to make a vitrual concert like the Gorillaz did for one of the music awards, it will have no personality it's just a really weird picture (so bring back Einstein or Mother Theresa would do no good other than maybe a meuseum display, providing they some how left us body scans... which i kind of doubt...) As for the molestation, he is definately creapy but i doubt that the body scan would be used for much more than doing a good moon walk, and i dunno if present day holograms can molest children and i don't really care to find out. Personally i'd rather see them use this on a more interesting band, or anything not related to Micheal Jackson.

...and if he did make some $ gumsandals, he'd probably donate it like he usually would - - -I suggest they; whoever they are, solidify their rights to it. ha !
This is cool, I think Michael would get a kick out of this. "This" can't be "It" though (only cool)..."It's" already playing...

As a professional holographer for many decades, this has nothing to do with holography at all. I cringe when I read stories like this where the author has failed to do his research and instead chooses to pander bad journalism for a headline.

First, a 3D digital body scan is a valid technology, but it is not holographic by any means. Everything that is 3D is not a hologram. For instance, an old Viewmaster 3D viewer is 3D but not holographic. Too much liberty is being taken with the use of the word holography.Holography is a technology based on the physics of storing dimensional data by use of wave interference. This is not the case in digitized scanning.

Second, holography is not a projection technology. Holograms are seen on a piece of holographic film like when you look at the tiny mass produced hologram of the dove on the Visa credit card. Images can appear in front of the film or behind the film but not shot right out into thin air as this article implies.

Not to be a doomsayer or anything... Wait, that's exactly what I'm about to say...

Anyway, I seem to recall that there was some sort of prophecy about kings rising from the dead and the end of the world. Something like it would never happen again until the time to repent is nigh... I know that sounds crazy, but I think it's a bad idea to resurrect Michael Jackson. It would also be a bad idea to resurrect Elvis... If you're gonna bring someone back from the dead, bring back Mister Wizard (you know... the science guy). Don't question it... You all know I'm right.

Note: I am aware this is not an arcane ritual involving necromancy... It is a hologram. But to this, I say Doom!! Bad enough we have to worry about robots, now we have to worry about robots creating hologram images to fool us into lowering our guard so that extinction can begin.

I'm pretty tired of seeing and hearing about this guy. Please let it go people.
