Now you can have all the fun of a Segway without looking like a dork. Notice how the Cool Rider is positioned to be a much more stylish conveyance, ridden by a suave gentleman with an insouciant sunglasses-wearing air.
He's probably happy that he can zip along at 12mph, looking cool while spending $1250 for the privilege, about a quarter the price of the much-geekier Segway. If he wants to be really daring, he can don a pair of roller blades and ditch that standing sled altogether. Try that, mall cop.
There's a lovely lady about to try out her inline skates on one, too:

Yeah, he's cool until he hits a bump and the steering shaft turns him into a castrati for the MET. Still, aside from the steering mechanism, I love the concept with the motor inside the wheel-- something we will be seeing more and more with the advance of the electric car/bike.

I need to see a re-enactment of the chariot scene from Ben Hur.

Am I the only one here that things this thing looks like a glorified weed whacker with a wheel instead of the cutting cord?
By futureoptimist at 11:55 AM ON 11/13/09
*thinks*
By Brammofan at 12:00 PM ON 11/13/09
I know what you're thinking, @futureoptimist. My weed wacker, unfortunately, has that offset angle that would make it somewhat difficult to travel in a straight line. Plus, it's electric, so I could only go 100' at a time.

How can you seriously claim that this thing is not geeky as hell..? Ha! The concept is intriquing and probably fun, but please don't try and sell this thing as the option for the 'less geeky'. Geez..marketers.
It looks unsafe to me. I think that's where the marketing would need to focus...convincing peeps that it's not a sure fire ticket to the ER.

For $1250, I am expecting more than 12 mph!

That's just what we need. Something else to watch out for AFTER we get out of our cars.
Why can't we just keep sidewalks safe?
I bet in 5 years I get run over by some rich noob trying to text message his secretary while doing 12mph down the crownded sidewalk. Cheer!

Why not use a couple of chihuahuas and a whip and achieve the same thing?
How 'bout putting it behind you and having it push you instead?
This is just very strange...

If people are actually using this, they'd be lazy.. which implies that they wouldn't be skinny, but fat. And if they're fat, I don't know if this device could chug them along @ 12 MPH!

$1250 for a wheel with an engine on it? There are people who could probably knock that together in their garage (I'm not one of them).
By gestalt at 8:10 PM ON 11/13/09
I like the design, but for $1200 I would just buy an electric hub motor and build one myself. love the spokeless wheel though, that would be the tough part to replicate.

I like the in wheel motor but could easily think of better ways to use it.
Also the location of the steering bar is pain waiting to happen.
