Apple topples Nokia, has Nintendo shaking in its boots

With the continued success of the iPhone worldwide, Apple has surpassed Nokia to become the number one handset vendor in the world, according to a report by the researchers at Strategy Analytics.

What's more, Apple is seeing its handset profits increase, raking in $1.6 billion for the third quarter of this year. Nokia, in comparison, saw its profits fall to $1.1 billion for the quarter. It's no doubt a bitter pill to swallow for Nokia, which is suing Apple over copyright infringements present in the iPhone.

Nokia isn't the only company worried, either. Nintendo, oddly enough, saw storms ahead despite the runaway successes of the Wii and DS handheld gaming system. "If we can't make clear why customers pay a lot of money to play games on Nintendo hardware and Nintendo software and differentiate ourselves from games on the mobile phone or iPhone, then our future is dark." Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told the Wall Street Journal.

When asked if Nintendo would be adding phone capabilities to its handhelds to combat the iPhone, Mr. Iwata said that his company would not — not until it's possible to offer the service without a subscription fee.

What is that APP pictured on the iPhone?

By Mark at 7:02 PM ON 11/11/09

By profit. Not by sales and not by market share.

Do try to keep up.

You guys are being really harsh. When there are so many competitors in a market, the companies care more about profit than the market share. Apple does not like to sell cheap things as we can tell from the $1000+ pricing on most of their computers. Right now though, it's not iPhone vs. all cell phones. It's iPhone vs. Smartphones. Nokia may have 40% market share, but as we can see, that is diminishing rapidly as Apple comes from 14% to 18% in a single quarter.

It's not surprising: the iPhone's adaptability and dominance of the market is rapidly making the likes of Kindle and other handheld devices obsolete.

N-Gage never stood a chance.

I have a Nokia E71. And it has definitly ran better than a chisley POS Apple iPhone. Steve Jobs can suck Nokia's OpenSource OS and hopefully choke to death. As for Nokia suing them over infringment. I hope they choke on that too and Nokia gets a nice kick back. Please tell me Nokia was stupid enough as Apple was to release an overheating phone that would cook itself and tell ppl "Too bad!". I dont think so!

Let me put it this way...

Free Apps I am running on my Nokia E71

Fully C Coded Web Server, Google Maps w/ Latitude, NES-SNES-GB-GBC-Sega Gen / Master System, Open Office, Windows 2000, WebCam3, MSN, iR Commander,

Hell. Believe it or not but I fire up my mapping software and I can see where I parked my car or if the gf is out for a drive I can see where shes taking my car. I caught the B*$(@ going to Futureshop one day. I know what my christmas gift is. Hahahahaha

P.S. - Any good apps for iPhone cost $$$. Any good apps for Nokia's are as easy as "Google Search & Download"

iPhones BLOW
