There's just something about any design flying the Electrolux banner — they all look like they belong in space. That's not a bad thing, though, and this portable fireplace by designer Camillo Vanacore is certainly no exception. Its capsule-like housing features a special ceramic that becomes transparent when heated (so the fire will reveal itself once started), and its small size means that you could carry it around with you around the house and enjoy a fire anywhere. Well, one that won't burn down your abode.
Camillo Vanacore's design is just a concept at this time. It may not bring back that nostalgia of a good ol' fashioned wood-burning fire, but you won't have to spend all that time in the backyard chopping logs, either.

What is the fuel?
I WANT ONE NOW!

I share Delezynski's feelings, I want one of those!

This will lead to severe second- and third-degree burns on the hands and possibly other parts of children.
BAD idea. Unless, of course, you jsut hate all small children.

To Old Man Dotes: I don't hate small children, but I do detest the nanny state and irresponsible parents. Hint: don't get one if you have small children. Of course, this may all be moot for now: doesn't the article say it's "just a concept at this time"?

Where do you put the marshmallow?
By Conner at 7:39 PM ON 10/19/09
This looks like the size of a pill and the camera zoomed waaaaaay in on it. What use is fire the size of a pill? Unless you wanted to swallow fire. I personally would not, but I would watch someone do it. Death to Smoochie.

Looks like a vacuum tube to me. Perhaps the ceramic keeps it cool to the touch.
By Deaf-Mute at 11:34 PM ON 10/19/09
I'm 12 what is this?
No really, this looks really cool (or hot).
Mr. Gumsandals - No, ceramic is great at holding heat in. Unfortunately, (and fortunately maybe) the ceramic will remain hot long after the fire is out. This will help heat after the fuel has stopped burning, but this means you need to "put the fire out" well before you want to move it.
This would look great in a modern styling home that doesn't have or doesn't want a fireplace. The only problem is if the fire marshals don't like it.

to those worried about the heat.
This is nor a real product, if it were then.
A) it's supposed to get hot, it's a heater.
B) it's double walled glass, you know, insulated from the environment, ideal if it's for light and ambience but not heat.
I suspect the latter judging from the images.

I had a certain "device" in college which "changed color" when "fire" was applied... I've said too much...

If it's small enough to fit in your hand, then it's a LAMP not a fireplace.
What idiots thinks this is fireplace?
