Powermat charger frees you from pesky wires

Powermat charger frees you from pesky wires

We want wireless everything. But most examples of wireless electricity using induction are just experimental. One vaporous promise just came true: Powermat, a thin platform on which you place three of your favorite gadgets and they charge up as if by magic. Get out your $100 for the charger, and $40 for each one of the cases you place on a device, which makes the miracle happen.

This is a painless way to charge up the iPhone. We can see placing a Powermat on a nightstand, or on a landing strip table just inside the door, and all we have to do is plunk our phones down on it and they are suddenly charging with no wires required. Now that's convenience. Best of all, they are for real, now available at Best Buy and Target.

Not a big fan of this device. I did some looking into this and if you do not have a Iphone/Touch, Nintendo DS or Blackberry you have to shell out 30 dollars for the adapter, which includes a small wire to the device.

"This is a painless way to charge up the iPhone."

Then you must have a lot more money than you have brains. $140 is NOT painless to me. Even if I wanted an iPhone, that's a lot of change.

A true painless way would be not having to use their own case. That totally kills the deal for me as I have already a case for the iPhone and would not trade it for one without the same functionality (belt clip, leather, etc.).

I can see the advantage of having a single an central powering station, but until the devices themselves incorporate this functionality I don't see the real gain here.

Yeah, its not really "wireless" as you are just trading the wire for their case.

YOO HOO! All gizmo retards, design a mat I can just lay my device on without first installing their wireless substitute. THEN you can brag.

Has everyone seriously become this stupid..how damn hard is it to plug a damn cell phone in you buy the phone it comes with a charger. And you wonder why people are broke these days buying dumb stuff like this use your head and save your money people you still plug the damn pad in if little cell phone wires and ipod wires are a clutter for you...your probably messy anyways.

Besides the fact that you have to buy their case ($40? Get real), when you charge your device, you can't pick it up and USE it like you could if it was charging on a wire. The commercials are also stupid.

I just got one for my wifes iphone and its great...I got the case that fits her phone...and all she does it put it on top of the powermat and it charges...no wires and no hassle. This is the future , you complainers probably hated all innovations..the car, indoor plumbing...etc etc. Give me a break already.

Lame. Steve, don't try to justify this waste of money by ragging on everyone else on here.

so easy to walk in the house, drop the phone and not worry about how much charge it has!

By drew at 1:02 PM ON 12/26/09

i got this for christmas from a relative, but i don't have the iphone, blackberry, or any other wireless charging device.....which is kind of pointless now, especially since i have to go out and spend and extra $30 for powercubes
