Dr. Dre gets his hands on an HP Envy laptop, Beats it

Who knew a laptop could benefit from the ministrations of the inimitable Dr. Dre? HP takes one of its Envy 15 laptops, already plenty stylish, and gussies it up in the same livery that adorns those Dr. Dre Beats headphones that we so adored. Says Dr. Dre:

"Beats is about sound. That's all it's ever been about, starting with the headphones and now moving to the Beats Envy computer we're doing with HP. The laptop is the new stereo for a lot of people and that's why we're putting out this computer with incredible sound."

This quad-core 15.6-incher is painted up in a shiny piano black finish with that unmistakable Beats logo on board. But that's not all. Making the DJs happy are a couple of software apps, Native Instruments Traktor LE and Audio 2 DJ, giving them a multichannel splitter for ultra smooth mixing. That ought to keep the dance floor sizzlin' fo' shizzle.

We especially like that B key, also modified in the Beats tradition. HP, what's happened to you? You've gone from a stodgy nerd to a beatin' hepcat in a matter of months. Nice. However, we weren't aware that DJs had $2,299 available to spend on a dolled-up lappie (the standard Envy 15 starts at $1,799), but then, maybe fame does have its benefits.

Is Dre a Dj? Most actual mp3j's already have stickers on their machine and if they had $2300, they wouldn't buy a new rig...

I moderate the Virtual DJ forums (the number one selling DJ software worldwide, Serato is a hardware/software solution). I've been saying for years now some smart PC company is going to create a laptop expressly for the DJ to use. No extra garbage we don't need, steam lined for maximum video/audio performance. Maybe this is the first step in that coming to realization.

Dre Dre cofounded NWA back in the late 80s. He is one of the oldest and biggest music producers of our time. There is not a person in the US that has not heard one song that he has produced.
