Don't you think that the best way to learn how to ride a bike might be to just go ride a bike? Apparently, Honda Motors thinks that folks in Japan need a simulator — like a flight simulator for bikes. The Honda Bicycle Simulator will be available in Japan in November. The price is unknown at this time, but it won't be cheap.
Not meant to be an exercise tool, this contraption will help teach cyclists how to be safe in traffic. The target consumers are driving schools, law-enforcement agencies — anyone who teaches cycling safety.
The Honda simulator takes users through a variety of situations such as riding to school, the store, etc., without the risk of getting side-swiped and smooshed as you learn. What do you think — helmets required?

Mmm, "target consumers..." I sense a video game involving bicyclists and thrown objects.
The Japanese as a culture look down on America, but one has to question the sanity of a culture that wants to computerize everything, including toilets. On the other hand they are way ahead in robotics, so maybe there's something to be said for computerized toilets.

I think it would be a cooler idea if there was a driving simulator right next to it, and they were linked so the driver could attempt to run over the biker and try to get a highscore.

For a second, I thought it was a miniature set with an iPhone rigged up! LOL

Old Man Dotes: I think the main reason Japan is so ahead on robotics is because they don't fear a robotic holocaust like we (by which I mean me and probably at least one other...) criminally insane Americans do. I don't want a toilet that's gonna become sentient and kill me... Nor do I enjoy getting my backside sprayed by water that's probably colder than a witches ...
Nafti: Awesome idea... It could be like Carmageddon. 2 player battle mode or something(except it would actually work).
rgboulay: I like the miniature idea... I'll order one if it comes in non-smartphone models.
