Lurking underneath most of this whiz-bang mobile wizardry we show you every day is a data and voice plan, onerously expensive to the point of driving those of us who are less well-heeled to bankruptcy. And look who comes to the rescue: Sprint. How does $69 a month for unlimited everything sound? And that includes talking your fool head off 24/7 if you want to.
Sprint is hot. Yesterday it shows off the cute and elegant Palm Pixi smartphone, and then today slam-dunks its $69 a month plan that undercuts all of the other greedy cellphone providers by a mile. The plan includes the works:
Unlimited calls to any mobile phone, unlimited web surfing, Blackberry access, unlimited Direct Connect, unlimited text, picture, and video, and unlimited weekend minutes start at 7pm. Plus, the plan includes all the little extras like GPS Navigation, Music Premier, TV Premier, NFL Mobile Live, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile.
How much cheaper is it? For example, if you want to use the iPhone in the least-expensive way possible, AT&T gouges you for more than $85 a month, and that only includes 200 voicemail text messages, sometimes-available "unlimited" 3G data, no MMS (yet), and 550 minutes of talk time. That $85 a month amounts to more than a thousand dollars a year. Compared with Sprint's new deal, AT&T's service is a ripoff.
This is revolutionary. Competition is good. Could this be our first look at the "invisible hand" of the marketplace invading the cushy world of fat cat cellphone providers? Whatever happened to that concept of using the airwaves, which belong to us all, for the public good?

Well, when my 2 year contract with AT&T is up, maybe the'll have dropped their price to something similar... Here's to hoping! :)

Ditto for my Verizon plan...

"Unlimited calls to any mobile phone"
what about calls to/from land lines? Odd that they would make a distinction.
Also, I had to try about 15 times to get past the captcha. I'd rather register for an account then have to deal with that late 90's technology.

I just switched from Verizon to Sprint DOUH! Btw I actually have better service with Sprint and there organization than I ever did with Verizon. Reason Im saying is I was a doubter when I switched.

Sprint.com details. Any Mobile phone any carrier any time without using your minutes. So I guess the only thing that would use your minutes is calling a land line. If you already have the everything data package they are automatically adding this to your account.

There's a catch!
"Unlimited data, messages and calls to any mobile, anytime while on the Sprint Network."
I read that is roam and get unlimited nothing.

Some corrections to your article:
The plan is not $69 for "unlimited everything"; that plan, Simply Everything, is the same $99 it was yesterday from Sprint. This plan now includes the new Any Mobile Any Time, which makes calling any mobile in the U.S. unlimited, but calls to landlines, including your voicemail, are still pulled from the general minute pool.
If you want to use the iPhone in "the least expensive way possible," AT&T will not charge you $85. They will, in fact, charge you $69.99, which includes 450 rollover minutes and unlimited data. To include a messaging package, starting at $5 for 200 messages (text or MMS but not, as the article states, voicemail - really, voicemail? - as these are essentially unlimited), brings the total to $74.99. The 550 minute plan you mention is actually a Family Talk Plan, for which the primary line's charges would, indeed, come to $85 for what you mentioned (excluding again the voicemail messages, as that's just plain incorrect).

The journalist who wrote this article needs to do his/her research before writing this misleading and false information.

I call shenanigans on Dvice! This actually got me really excited until I found out it's completely misleading and UNTRUE. Dvice, it seems, is always posting these kinds of mistakes in some form or another.
I say they need to make another post admitting their mistake and clear up any misconceptions their readers might have before they all go out and cancel their service and find out the hard way that DVICE lied to them.

Thanks for your comments, dear readers. Yes, in this $69 plan, Sprint will charge you talk time for calling land lines against the 450 minutes you're allotted per month. Sorry, I wasn't trying to hide that, I just didn't realize that it meant you'd be charged extra for calling land lines. My mistake.
So It's not quite as good a plan as I initially hoped, but still, it beats the hell out of my 550-minute AT&T Family Talk Plan, which is the best deal you can get if your household is using two AT&T phones.
Just don't call land lines much (and really, do all your friends have land lines?), and be careful about roaming, because it looks like that trap could be waiting for you in this Sprint plan, too.
On top of that, lots of people complain about Sprint's network coverage, so that could also be a drawback. Sheesh. Cellphone providers: It's always something.
Again, sorry if anyone was misled by my post.

I've been looking for the best rates/programs for a smart phone as well (currently on t-mobile). There was a billboard in my area for Boost Mobile and a $50 a month unlimited plan. Does anyone have any experience with them?
By Tammy at 6:25 PM ON 09/12/09
This doesn't measure up all that well to some of the prepaid deals out there. Only 450 minutes to/from landlines and 45cents per minute on overages! See how quickly that becomes really expensive! There are so many other better offers out there. The only way you can (maybe) save is with family plans. For one phone it doesn't make sense. I use a Straight Talk unlimited for 45 bucks on Verizon's network, which is better than Sprint's almost anywhere in the States. True nationwide as well, so none of those roaming charges.

For $50 you get what you pay for a basic phone with sometimes service and by sometimes i mean sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Just beware of the i776 that phone is almost always going to crap out on you.

I used to work for AT and T. I would just pay the ETF and get away. They rip you off like crazy. I regret EVER working for them.

I'm not impressed. I have Straight Talk's unlimited plan for $45 a month with unlimited talk and text over Verizon's network. Can't be beat!

sprint $69 a month info.
By Ashif at 2:47 PM ON 09/24/09
I just switched over from iphone (AT&T), Sprint is offering the best deal out there.
Comparable plan on AT&T:
450 mins $39.99
Iphone plan $30.00
Unlimited MSG $20.00
AT&T Navigation $10.00
Total : $99.99 this does not included TV or free mins to 250 million cell phones in the US.
I guess if you dont mind paying a premium for apple products, then go ahead.
By Lance at 8:20 AM ON 09/28/09
Tammy is right Straight Talk has the best unlimited offer, far better than Sprint. I don't need to make so many calls but the thing I do need is to make international calls which non of these plans offer. That is why I use a Tracfone for business because I can make long distance and International calls to over 100 country's for the same price as a local call.
By Grace at 4:42 AM ON 10/19/09
Does this work with the blackberry curve also?
By Grace at 4:52 AM ON 10/19/09
also, does the land/line calling thing count if the landline calls you?
wow, i'm sorry this is a really obvious question. I've been with Cricket for a little under two years. I Must say it is amazing other than the poorly made phone(minus) and horrible service(minus) oh not to mention the phones are extremely expensive(minus) but they have the best prices out there for UNLIMITED EVERYTHING! I'm sorry to Sprint but i'd like to say your plan does not beat out that Cricket group(:
i'd like to get a Blackberry Curve, i need it cheap.
does anybody have any suggestions?

I have Straight Talk on the Verizon network. Bought it at Walmart and it's an amazing deal. The Samsung Finesse is a very cool smartphone and paying only $45 a month for unlimited everything is the best deal going!

The only thing that keeps me from leaving Verizon for Straight Talk is Verizon's Backup Assistant. My contacts are backed up on their server, so if my phone is lost, damaged, stolen or replaced, I don't loose my contacts. Does anybody know if Straight Talk phones have a similar feature?

Boost Mobile now has 2 new phones, the Blackberry Curve and the Sanyo Incognito, which are both connected to the Sprint CMDA 3G network(Sprint owns Boost Mobile, of course)... So if you buy one of those phones and get the Boost monthly Unlimited plan with them, then you will get unlimited talk, text, and fast web all on Sprints 3G network for $50 a month with absolutely no "catch"...... Thats the real story you and everyone else should be writing to give people better service for less money.
