PlayStation 3 bringing 3D to all games in 2010

PlayStation 3 bringing 3D to all games in 2010

3D is becoming more and more prevalent in movies, so why not in video games? Why not indeed. The PlayStation 3 is hopping on the 3D bandwagon next year, bringing a 3D mode to the console that'll work with all existing games sometime next year.

Of course, in order to enjoy this, you'll need a new TV that supports 3D. So it may be more than just the year it takes for Sony to get this firmware out to PS3s to make it commonplace. But it's an exciting look at where consoles will be going in the not-too-distant future, or at least whenever you buy your next TV.

Do we REALLY need everything to be 3D? Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Have you watched a 3D movie lately? Unfortunately all the 3D stuff gives me a headache and makes me nauseous. I can't focus right or something when they are being all 3D crazy. I am not looking forward to EVERYTHING going 3D.

Sony's lack of vision in true future technology is going to be their downfall. Take the ps3, they show only stubbornness to the low rating of their console.

I foresee a bad future for them if they stay on this failing path. 3d television/gaming is "nice" but not truly worth investing in, especially in this era, where people just invested money in a new TV, they are just not waiting on another new technology.

Oh well, we will just see. I can only recommend Sony to rethink their strategy.. but well who am I ...

Yes, yes I deffinatly do want my games in 3D.... a hell of a lot more than I want motion control. Some TVs are already out that support 3D mode, and it is Panasonic and Samsung you will see the biggest push on this. James Cameron has a a fleet of these travelling around to show off the new Avatar movie with the new display technology. The TVs are coming whehter or not any game systems support it. Sony is just saying they will support it with a piece of hardware you already own. There is no downside.... if you don't buy a TV with 3D out, then you still have exactly what you bought. It is a free ugrade for people who do upgrade their TV. Whether or not 3D movies ever really take off is a whole nuther topic, but I do see the new TVs coming out being huge for video games. I would suspect in the next week you will hear Microsoft announcing future support for the new displays also. Chances are, any TV you buy 2 years from now will havea 3D mode. Why are you bashing them for upgrading their hardware to support it, when you can just ignore it if you want?

I agree with gizzmogeek I have the same problem with 3D and what about the people who wear glasses we have to change to contact lenses because the 3D glasses do not fit over my regular glasses. I just hope 3D goes away and fast it's a waste of time.

i third that gizzmogeek and omega82.
but........
i dont care if you get an ingame option.

By Mihos at 10:03 PM ON 09/04/09

It is an option... like surround sound or 1080i ... if you dont' have it nothing changes, if you do, then they support it. My god, people will complain about anything.
After seeing the glasses they are talking about, unless you have fricken windshields on your face, then yes... the glasses will fit over them. I am a little concerned with the battery life on the glasses and how good the range is on the transmitter.

Does this mean, that framerate drops to half when playing in 3D? Coz double images are needed, one for left, and one for right eye. I dont understand how it's possible that this could work well with PS3 and current games which already uses all the potential of the system.

i fully agree with "MIHOS" his the smartes person here, no doubt also with the highest IQ....am guessing...what the??? some people are clowns and want to stay in the present with a lack ambition to progress.. 3D tV is an amazing feature, brilliant if you can afford it, it will come in two modes 3d or 2d, you dicks are here complaining about nothing , if you dont want it, you dont have to have it, it s your choice....its the next step forward whether you geeks like it or not "loosers" bloody selfish, thinking only about yourselfs and gay nausiers, this is one technology you punks aint gonna hold back...and guess what? its also coming on mobile phones too, equiped with a new lcd called "lenticular"..now with these you dont need 3d glasses, its the actual screen that simulates the 3d affect, right before your eyes "BEHOLD"....same lcd will be used on some 3d tv's too..so their you go "wank on that" punks
