Panasonic\'s 85-inch plasma hits $30K price point

Sure, there have been much bigger displays, even a 150-inch monster, but not at such a respectable 85-inch size or relatively cheap $30,000 price. Of course, that's way out of reach for most of us, but we can remember 10 years ago when a 42-inch 720p monitor cost $30,000, so let the past be prologue — affordable huge screens like this can't be far behind.

This model TH-85PF12U brings the kind of specs you'd expect, rocking the 1080p at a depth of 3.9 inches. Make sure you get a hefty couple of buddies to help you schlep this thing into your home theater because it weighs 260 pounds. And you'll have to have a space that's 74 inches wide to accommodate it. But just look at it — it's the perfect-sized TV. Now wait a couple of years for the perfect price to match.

Seems kinda of a waste to me. 30k for a TV??
Maybe a few gadget geeks with money to burn would buy it; but in a few years after buying it; the value would drop so low I would wait. Also the LED type displays are the one's to watch out for and I am waiting for the price to come down and it will.
If I really really gotta have a display this large or bigger I can buy a projector for a quarter of that 30K price tag... Also the picture is just as good or better; heck I am using one now and the picture is way larger than this 30K Plasma...

Wait a min..... Aren't LED's out now ? Maybe not this big but I saw an LED at a trade show that looked far better and much much cleaner than any LCD or Garbage plasma. Yes I know the refresh rate is faster but they look like garbage to me black should be black......

Plasma has far better picture quality than LCD (of what ever type). As for the price, it's all about priorities.

The LED TVs mention here are LCD with LED backlighting, because true LED TV sets are bigger and more expensive. The latest OLED TV sets over 36 inches wide are still a few years away.
