New HD Wii coming in 2011?

New HD Wii coming in 2011?

Square Enix is the biggest game developer in Japan, so when president Yoichi Wada speaks, people listen. And when he says that Nintendo is prepping a next-gen, high definition Wii with a brand-new motion controller for 2011, we believe him.

The current Wii is by far the most underpowered of the current crop of gaming consoles, so it makes sense that they'd be working on an update far earlier than Sony and Microsoft. Heck, it doesn't do HD! In this day and age, that seems crazy. So will 2011 be the year of the Wii 2? We'll just have to wait and see.

I have seen the Wii in a few friends places -- gathering dust...

that is what it is, just a fad...

if you are not into games, why spend hundreds and buy a piece of equipment, that you might use one in a year?

@thexfile
Do you know what your talking about.

First, The wii will never ever ever ever get blu ray because it is owned by sony

Second, I doubt you watch blu ray on your 360 considering that 360 doesn't have blu ray

By Mihos at 5:45 PM ON 09/21/09

I would say I would get the kids one, but they have already outgrown the Wii.

As long as they get rid of the friend codes then I'll get it. The reason (besides last gen hard/software) that Wii doesn't have more hardcore games is because the move to online games is so huge now.

Those friend code really screw it up for them.

For the love of Beh'jee'bus, get rid of the friend codes!

Seems like a good move to me, the current Wii has been taken just about as far as it can go I think. Possibly the most intriguing statement in the article is "brand new motion control", in theory, that could mean something different and well, brand new... bye bye Wii wand?
@Ben
Actually it would make perfect sense for Sony to allow Nintendo to use blu ray technology, because they would of course do it for a rather hefty price. Which is why Nintendo would probably be the ones who would never do it, not Sony. Plus, Nintendo don't really seem to go for that 'our consoles can also play movies' thing. If they did, I'm guessing it'd be downloads rather than blu ray. Hell of a lot cheaper for them.

@Sir Cob
Agreed! Friend codes need to die yesterday. I'll never understand Nintendo's fetish for them.
Although that being said, I've never had a huge problem playing online with the Wii, Brawl and Mario Kart both work a treat

@Ben

Since when wii is owned by sony?

I like the Wii... I think people are too interested in making the awesome computer world look like the crappy real one. I LIKE cartoony graphics that express imagination. I find both the Xbox and the sony great graphics but they emulate the world I am trying to escape by playing a video game, the real world.
