Look out MacBook Air and Dell Adamo — HP just flexed its high-fashion muscle with a couple of laptops that are thinner and more beautiful than anything it's released thus far. The company's calling its revamped laptop line HP Envy, starting off with 13.1-inch and 15.6-inch LED backlit screens. Wasn't there another Laptop named "Envy"? Indeed there was, the seriously thin Voodoo Envy 133, showing us that HP must be blending in some special voodoo since it bought boutique PC-maker Voodoo PC three years ago.
Our eye is on the 0.8-inch-thin Envy 13 (almost as thin as the MacBook Air's 0.76 inches and Dell Adamo's .64 inches), weighing 3.74 pounds and offering an optional "slice" battery that HP says gives you 18 hours of battery life. It's no mere netbook; it's unusually powerful, running an Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86GHz chip, 3GB of RAM and a 512MB ATI Mobile Radeon HD graphics card. We're also fond of its multi-touch pad, and its ability to give you quick access to Internet, music, photos and videos after waiting just a few seconds, without the need to fully boot up. The cheapest Envy 13 will cost you $1,699.
Weighing 5.18 pounds is the more-capable member of the two, the HP Envy 15 with a 15.6-inch screen and more powerful Intel Core i7 processor. You can stuff 16 gigs of RAM in there, even though at 5.18 pounds, it's almost as light as its little brother. Pricing for that one starts at $1,799.
Inside both of these babies is what HP calls "Beats Audio," touted as "the most powerful audio experience at a premium notebook line." Beats lugging around a pair of mini speakers. Peruse the pics of both laptops below — you can tell them apart because the Envy 13 is the one pictured with a white background.

When did HP start releasing MacBooks?
All kidding aside this thing is sexy... no question.

It is a mockery of the MacBook! How dare they?!

Hey if a PC maker finally gets things right i would give up my macbook for a PC laptop. Apple laptops are so much nicer than anything that runs Windows out right now. The sleek mouse pad does not make your fingers stick to it and it runs smooth. Would love to have one of these things if the price would come down!

That is probably the sexiest PC I have ever seen. One of the best things about Macs is the sex appeal it has. Don't get me wrong it's not the only reason to buy a comp (you've got to be an idiot if you buy it for that reason), but along with good software, people always look for a good looking computer. HP seems to have delivered that appeal. http://ziggytek.com/

Dells are as a rule, pretty reliable.
The Macbook has it's lovely spaced out keyboard and purpose built OS.
Based on my previous experience with HP I'd say it doesn't really have anything going for it except looks. (eg. two massive RAM breakdowns within the first year, luckily the warranty was still good)

Hey quite an informative article. I really like the specifications. I bought an Acer Timeline 4810T a month ago and its really doing well. The Acer is celebrating 10 years in India on 9-Sep-09. There are many that will swear by their Acer laptop computers and this is amply evident when you come across a great many advertisements expounding on the virtues of such laptops. However, it is not such a good idea to go by advertising claims alone and it is also necessary to first check out different manufacturers and sees what’s on offer before making a considered decision. It should give you peace of mind that Acer is a worldwide company and it is known for providing practical and first-rate solutions for the marketplace. For this reason it will be worthwhile to consider an Acer Timeline. No wonder they are leaders in notebook market in India.

So wait this is like a macbook only with weaker specs, and costs more? And you don't get Mac OS. Why would you want this?

It has way better specs than macbooks. It does cost more than a macbook but I dont mind paying extra for good specs and something with such a gorgeous design. Oh and it runs Windows 7. What else do you want.
