Good lord! It's a $135,000 Blu-ray player

Good lord! It\'s a $135,000 Blu-ray player

Next time you have a spare $135,000 lying around, why not pick up a Goldmund Eidos Reference Blue Blu-ray player? This 66-pound behemoth has such beautiful design, we're thinking it would be right at home in an art gallery. But does it make the Blu-ray movies look any better? Only those with golden eyes and ears will know for sure.

Those precision spring-loaded legs, a completely isolated power supply and fancy Goldmund Magnetic Damping drives the price up into the stratosphere, along with that ritzy Goldmund name. And hey, expensive Blu-ray player collectors, Goldman is limiting this production run to 50 units, and there are certainly enough suckers available to snap up every one.

For crying out loud — save yourself $132,000 and just get one that loads fast.

This is something that movie theaters would use, even then, it doesn't seem worth $135,000.

No movie theatre would be stupid enough to use this. This is for people with more money than sense.

This actually looks like a component that'll look cheesy and kitschy in under 5 years. I known people who've had super-expensive components from the 70s that they thought would last them forever that look better.

C'mon, it's a blu-ray player. They're already under $200 and on their way to being obsolete.

Oppo BDP-83 FTW, and enough money left over for 1,000 BR titles.

If you buy one of these you're both IGNORANT and TOO RICH for your own good. Hire me for $10,000 and I will set up up with a top-of-the line A/V equipment, with a little left over for some charitable donations...

The ugly thing won't even fit on a rack system. Who puts a bright white BR player on top of a desk??? Shees. Why don't they 24K gold plate it for an extra cool one million dollars? Idiots.

Oh, and is that not the CHEESIEST fluorescent display possible? For that amount of money, why not a OLED with onscreen setup and movie preview, and slide out keyboard drawer for customization? Why not an on-board hard-drive for custom movie preview trailers (like a THX movie preview, etc.) Why not streaming video capabilities? Why not BR ripping functionality (now being implemented legally on BR players)

Why not...? The list is pretty much endless for all the functionality it SHOULD have for that amount of greenbacks.

I can build a better HTPC for under $3000 that has more class, more functionality, with top-of-the-line software video filtering and ISF calibration possibilities than this piece of kitsch-krap.

This is for people with certifiable mental illness that believe that by suspending the power cord off the ground you can make huge improvements in your picture. Or by putting specially shaped cylinders around your components (which you see in these images) you can make the electrons all move in phase or some such crazy idea.

Anyone who buys this stuff, or $10,000 power cords deserve to lose their money to the scammers. The problem is the people making this crap actually believe its superior. The people who buy this stuff, and sell this stuff belong in an asylum and off our streets. Most definitely off the internet, enough crazies here already.

Its $h!t like this that confims the uber rich as the douche bags we all know they are...

By ChickenMoo at 6:57 PM ON 09/12/09

I want the names and addresses of the idiots that buy these so I can sell them crap... not stuff that dont work ... I would sell them ziplock bags of my own crap for $30,000 each....

By crap at 6:25 PM ON 09/13/09

You are joking about the crap, but there was an artist who auctioned off some of his crap in tin cans and made a bunch of money.

As an owner of one of these fine machines, I just have to tell you all how wrong you are. Well wrong on most points; it is a bit unsightly for the home environment. But when I saw the solid design, spring-loaded legs and isolated power supply I though, MY WORD, that machine is perfect for my Hummer.

So I woke up my lazy car electronics guy (thinks he can always nap just because he has a guest house) and ran the idea by him. A few days later, BINGO. The shock absorption keeps my pictures smooth on even the most challenging suburban terrain.

Even my wife is happy now that I'm willing to drive the brats around. But this thing along with my 7.1 channel sound system sure shuts them up. Well, to tell you the truth I honestly can't tell if they're quiet or not. But hey, ignorance is bliss. $135k is a small price to pay for getting the wife back on my good side. I'll easily save that by cutting a month of brothel time from my budget!

In short, if you can afford one of these, slap that sweet baby in your Hummer and have a blast!

The Oppo BDP-83 is a beautiful piece of US-made high-end luxury, I think it would outlast this by a mile. Found it at Blu-Ray10. As for the shock absorbers, I placed some sorbothane pads under the feet - bingo, we're done... & I saved over $130K!
