Combine six monitors into one mega-monitor with Eyefinity

Combine six monitors into one mega-monitor with Eyefinity

If using two monitors at once is good, it follows naturally that using six monitors at once is downright awesome. And now you can, in theory, by using AMD's Eyefinity graphics card, which is able to power six 30-inch monitors at once.

What's cool about this is that instead of splitting the monitors up like you see with most multiple monitor setups, it actually treats the six screens as one big screen. So your gaming sessions will be six times as epic, or, if you're less fun than that, your spreadsheets will be effing enormous. Either way, that's impressive.

...and then I jizzed in my pants!

That's pretty damned cool...but it's not enough to make me switch over from nVidia cards. Just had a better experience with those than with ATI stuff.

boo, there's frames in the way making a grid pattern and the images don't line up.

especially if you're playing a game with the recticle in the middle of the screen. I would rather not have this.

@asher buy some screens with virtually no edge then, and the problem should be minimal.

@ burningice
Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a bigger screen than six nearly edgeless monitors?

By HDTVguy at 3:06 PM ON 09/11/09

Couldn't agree more. Instead of running 6 screens in an attempt to create an ultra high resolution master screen, for games that don't even support said resolutions is an waste of time and money. An HD projector or 55" LED is more than enough for this purpose, and will likely work on a smaller budget!

Have you compared the price of say, 6 22" monitors vs the cost of a 55" TV? With this, I could have a 5040x2100 pixel display with an approximate 65" viewable area for around $1600.
It'll cost me* at least $1700 for a 52" television with a 1920x1080 display.

**Some games will support that resolution. For instance, at their demo they were playing WoW at 7680x3200, max quality, @80fps.

Samsung is in the middle of producing monitors with thin bezels and special stands just for this. Hopefully they will be very affordable. An AMD rep was quoted saying the cost will be around one or two Dell 30" super resolution monitors.

I'd be more impressed with 5 wide screens on their sides side by side so you'd have the center with no grid and only 4 vertical bars breaking up the view...

By Nightfall at 11:25 PM ON 09/12/09

Those frames can be distracting when your playing games. It would be much better if borderless monitors are used if there are any.

By sherpa at 7:48 AM ON 09/15/09

yeah. cause playing games is the only possible use for this.

pffff. freakin gamers.

I'll stick with multiple 24" monitors, some landscape some portrait. Having them all act as one large screen doesn't let you "snap" different apps to different screens (maximize)

Having 6x30" in a flat wall like this *requires* you to be at least 10 feet away to see edge to edge. Great for advertising. Not that practical for your desk. If you don't curve them around your seated location you are constantly stretching from side to side just to read them.
