Brain scans reveal what's in your mind's eye

Brain scans reveal what\'s in your mind\'s eye

Scientists are getting closer to being able to create an image of whatever you're picturing your mind. This is either completely amazing or absolutely terrifying. Maybe a little bit of both.

To construct their model, the researchers used an fMRI machine, which measures blood flow through the brain, to track neural activity in three people as they looked at pictures of everyday settings and objects.

As in the earlier study, they looked at parts of the brain linked to the shape of objects. Unlike before, they looked at regions whose activity correlates with general classifications, such as "buildings" or "small groups of people."

Once the model was calibrated, the test subjects looked at another set of pictures. After interpreting the resulting neural patterns, the researchers' program plucked corresponding pictures from a database of 6 million images.

It seems like we're still many years off from a dream-recreation device, but they're certainly on track for it. Awesome?

The fact that scientists are getting closer to creating such a device is pretty amazing.
I knew that it would only be a matter of time.

I can see it now though...YouTube videos of peoples memories and fantasies.

To me, the scary part is when fringe lunatics on thier self-rightious pedestals get a hold of this and start enforcing their will on people because of a silly daydream.
We all know how much politicians have been influenced by small, yet very vocal groups.

People get bent out of shape when others write/speak their opinions...imagine when they can see your thoughts?
