Unveiled today at a theatrical product demo in Manhattan: the Bose SoundDock 10, a XXL version of its (apparently popular) SoundDock iPod speaker. The SoundDock 10 bumps up the size and power (and price) of the SoundDock while still keeping the footprint small. How much power? Bose is notorious for not releasing specs, but the demo was convincing: The SD10 managed to blast clear and room-filling sound into a sizable meeting space.
Worried all that sound might shake up your iPod Classic's hard disk? Fear not — the base has a suspension system that keeps your iPod steady even when the speaker is at full boom. There's an aux input for hooking up your Zune HD as well as a composite-video output for watching iPod video on a TV. Don't get too excited about the USB port — it's only for software upgrades (no syncing)… which the initial units might need since it's not compatible with iPhone 3.1 yet (I checked), even though it's said to be iPhone compatible. Its best trick, though, is the optional Bluetooth streamer, which you snap into the dock when you want to carry your iPhone but still stream music to the dock.
The SoundDock 10 is intended to stand in as your main sound system, and it's priced to do just that: $599. The Bluetooth module sells for $149. This should suit you fine if you want something big-sounding and super-simple, and your musical life revolves around your iPod. I think I just described most music listeners in America. Too bad not many of them can probably afford this these days.

Umm . . . $150 for the blue tooth module? Seriously? Is it cast in gold with diamond crusted attachments? Considering you can buy an entire bluetooth capable phone (without contract) for less than that, I'm not sure how they justify that price for a simple bluetooth relay. It's 25% of the cost of the actual speaker system!
That said, I think ipod docks in general are a stupid overpriced gimmick. You can attach an ipod to almost any stereo with a $5 aux cable and play just fine. Sure it's not 'integrated' like the dock, but you pay about half as much for the same quality stereo. And hey, if you really want 'integrated', buy a bose stereo with a hard drive that'll let you copy cds and mp3s to it directly.

I guess I was right... more bloatware for the ignorant rich. $600? Shees.
I'll stick to my $3 aux cable plugged into my A/V receiver cranking out 7.1 surround sound, select and playlist and rock out for the next couple hours.
This seems aimed at the grandfather crowd at the retirement villa. He thinks he's cool getting a Bose (hey, Joe over in Villa 3C has a Bose and says its great!)
Another snoozer-loser from Bose.

Bose only gets alot of flac because of their prices (which are way to high). But they do make some great looking and sounding things.
My pc speakers are Bose, and 3 or my speakers in my living room are Bose.
Those were all decently priced though.
That said, 600 bucks for this...NO WAY, maybe 150.

Does anyone knows if this Blue Tooth module will be compatible with the others soundocking systems of BOSE????

There are many expensive ipod Stereo systems in this world that are not worth the price. Its years of research that goes into making these products. (The bluetooth dock from what i hear will work with any cell phone that is blue tooth) I have had the chance to hear this and it is truely amazing. Before you guys bust on how much the SoundDock 10 costs go out and take a listen for yourself. I can promise you it sounds better than any other cheaper companies 7.1 system using a 5.00 Aux cable.

Well, I don't know about "cheap" surround systems from Wally world, but I could hand-select together some a pretty decent 5.1 system for about $600 that would do audio from an iPod, and have an awesome tight sound and stage presence.
Yes, Bose sounds okay good by itself, but I have done A/B comparisons with their other gear, and there's no comparison to a similarly priced hand-selected system.
Don't even get me going for what could be bought with decent used A/V gear! Here's some items I've bought recently used via craigslist:
Velodyne VA-907 subwoofer, $50
H/K AVR 635 7.1 : $200
Matched R/L/C Klipsch speakers: $300
That's only $550, and would blow the little Bose off the table, and not only fill the room with sound, but probably bother the neighbors, too!
Yes, Bose has it's place, but it's for my dad and his retirement home buddies, not for someone who can hear quality, not the Bose huffing and chuffing subwoofers, and lackluster mids and highs....
To see how low Bose rates, go to www.audioreview.com, as a start...
Ciao!

It's funny to see that you have to brag about having BIG systems to compare to a system that is used solely for an iPod. Have you heard it?
Anyway, before you go throwing stones, go ahead and lose your money on craigslist. But before that, break out a ruler to measure yourself first.
Losers.

I just received this ipod dock as a gift at first unimpressed with the size and price i thought for the amount of money this costed it better sound huge..... well lets say it does. It blows the first few including the portable sound dock off the table and into the trash... if you visit the apple store they have sound docks from all companies lined up for comparison. This dock sounds like the bose 321 system if you have ever heard it and people who judge it on looks are most likely angry that they cant afford this wonderful piece of art. I would gladly trade any audio system in my house for this dock anyday because at the size 19inches by about 10 and 8 i mean i can hear and feel the bass and CRISP and HIGH notes perfectly everywhere....... as for inputs there is a piece at radioshack which can split headphones into 2 3 and 4 pairs it also expands the inputs on the bose and costs 7.99 the usb is only for upgrades! which is ok seeing as inputs are expandable and the video out looks great even on my hd tv...
