The Watergate is a design by Michael Tatschl, Sascha Mikel and Martin Schnabl that would replace turnstiles with a different solution when it comes to keeping people out: water jets. While it doesn't present a serious physical barrier, it does allow for both the handicapped and people lugging around bags and bikes to pass through easily. All others? They get drenched.
Still, it seems like I could just walk on through whatever the Watergate is trying to protect if I thought ahead and wore my swimsuit. Then again, it'd be easy for officers to spot the drenched man in the crowd and stop me. I'd still sue for the gate killing my cellphone, though. Hurrah for frivolous lawsuits.
They should really just make this thing spit acid.

LOL for the acid-spitting "Watergate"!
Boy, that would suck when the system gets confused about your access rights.

Wouldn't your average dog run right thru this without even blinking?

If you hit the water at a certain velocity (or if the water hits you in that case) it would be as tough as hitting cement. I say this is a good idea, except for the fact that its a waste of water

It wouldn't be that hard to make a system that reuses the water, thus NOT wasting water. Interesting idea. Acid might be a bit much ;) but water with a die in it to alert security would be perfect.

"...but water with a die in it to alert security would be perfect."
Until the system mistakenly squirted you on your way to a business meeting. That would ruin my day. It's bad enough leaning on a bathroom sink and getting your pants wet, then furiously dabbing your pants and sitting under the hot air hand dryer in a position that is not acceptable in public.
Other than that though, I think it's a great idea. The two red and white barriers shooting the water look fun enough for a quick hop, which is also a bonus for me.

I believe that with the certain water pressure, you would have think twice before going through it.
Haven't you ever seen water jets cutting steel? They use approximately 6000 bar of pressure.

of course, you could think in advance and wear your swimsuit, along with your bullet proof vest... :P

Ok maybe it could recycleits water but anytime someone tries to pass through some of the recycled water has been subtracted from its system and added onto that person (but whatever thats not a bad idea. I like this idea)
