Exploding electronics are never a good thing. For a while, Apple iPods have had a small problem: a few of them have exploded. That's bad. What's worse is that Apple is trying to keep a recent incident quiet, with what you might call a case of bullying.
A man in England dropped his daughter's iPod. Bad daddy. The player started making hissing noises and heating up, so the man took it into the backyard, where it went 10 feet in the air with a pop and puff of smoke.
This is where it gets interesting. The man just wanted a refund - nothing more, nothing less. After a few phone calls to Apple, he was offered a refund, with a catch. By accepting the refund, Apple demanded that he keep the terms of the settlement confidential, and if he talks, Apple will seek injunctive relief and damages. The man refused the refund.
This is nowhere near the first case of an exploding iPod, and unfortunately, we may never know how many other cases were silenced this way. Bad Apple.
