Rechargeable lawnmower belches no emissions, 50% quieter

Rechargeable lawnmower belches no emissions, 50% quieter

We like the green theme of that electric riding lawnmower from Husqvarna we showed you last month, but that one's just a design concept — here's one that actually exists. Plug the Recharge Mower into a standard wall outlet for 12 hours, and you get three hours of cutting time.

It's powered by three electric motors, one for each of the two blades and one to move it forward at 4.5mph. Its cutting width is a bit narrow for our taste — 27 inches instead of the usual 34 inches of most riding lawn mowers — but we like the idea of its quiet operation, cranking out just 50% the noise of conventional internal combustion riding mowers.

It's not cheap, costing you $2195, but the company is offering free shipping on the 300-pound contraption, at least for now. Green grass, green planet, everybody wins. Or, we could just stop being grass farmers altogether. Better yet, we could just bury our heads in the sand and deny climate change, and there won't be a problem.

"Better yet, we could just bury our heads in the sand and deny climate change, and there won't be a problem."

While I'm all for eliminating pollution, I don't need opportunistic politicians or greedy-for-grant-money scientists playing Chicken Little. Or... have you been ignoring the rapidly growing number of climatologists and meteorologists (including the founder of The Weather Channel) who say man-made climate change is a farce? Or... have you been ignoring the fact that Mars and Venus have been experiencing the exact same climate changes we have? Let's stop with the blockbuster movie-style, globe-destroying, overly dramatic rhetoric that does nothing but line the pockets of congress and deal with pollution because it's the smart, responsible thing to do.

I like this mower (I have an electric push mower myself). My main reason for liking it? It doesn't use terrorist-sponsoring oil from the mideast. My second reason for liking it? It doesn't add to air pollution.

Emission-just put your hand where the cooling exhaust-HOT. Think, the emissions are at the power plant

The best lawnmower is no lawnmower. Get rid of your lawns and re-plant with indigenous ground cover, plants and trees. Not only will you be doing the planet a favor because you won't be using fertilizers and poisons, you will be freeing yourself up to enjoy life more (assuming you don't hire someone to cut your grass).

@GreenwoodKevin: Well said. To the supporters of global warming: prove it, then lead by example. Be smart with resources but don't try to spend my money to solve problems like bigfoot attacks, alien abductions and gore related crisis.

To all: To disprove or prove global warming is nearly impossible because of the huge number of factors that interact with weather conditions on a global scale. That being said, anyone thinking that changing the air composition, even slightly, will have no effect on the planet is frankly being stupid. Our goal should always be to further our development, art and culture while co-existing with the planet and wildlife while being responsible for as little changes as possible. (right, we're off to a bad start. but changes can start any time)

I do think global warming hype is taking away from other issues that I personally find more serious (ocean/lake polluting is a horrible, horrible horrible practice), but at least it has been in large part responsible for popularising the idea of being enviromentally friendly. That to me is worth the price.

Finally, to GreenWoodKevin (and similarly minded americans), chances are the oil you put in that tank is Canadian, not Middle-eastern. If it is, chances that it funds terrorism is very small. It is most likely funding another extravagant hotel in Dubai. (and employing thousands of workers, providing income for thousands of families) Do yourselves a favour and stop watching american news stations. it's almost as bad as Chinese propaganda. (though at least you get to choose one of two sides of propaganda, liberal or conservative)

You guys are so crazy. WE USE OIL IN EVERYTHING! The plastic that this lawnmower is shelled in comes from oil. The metal blades and whatever other metal pieces would need to be tempered in oil.

The fact is that while America uses the most oil in the world, America happens to be amongst the lowest polluters too. The use of oil may or may not have an effect on your climate change. It depends on how responsible you are with the use of oil, of course. Ask China why they aren't interested in lowering emissions.

Now I've said this before and I'll say it again. BUY STUFF THAT YOU NEED! If you need a lawnmower and you can afford this one, you like it then buy it. Don't buy it because of how it will save the world. It won't. Neither will CFL bulbs, although if they are cheaper than regular lightbulbs, why not buy them?

I'm interested in an electric lawnmower for less maintainence and far less noise than it's combustion engine brothers. Doesn't that make more sense than a lawnmower saving the world?
