At first glance, the Marset recessed LEDTube didn't really do much for me. Yet the more I look it it the more I like it. Instead of having a lamp on my nightstand, I could just pop this guy out when I need it and it'd leave my nightstand space free. That, and it kind of looks like something you'd find on a space station — so I'm sold.
Well, until I saw the price, that is. Right now, it looks like it's really available to contractors and carries a whopping $350 sticker price for either a silver or black version. Still, it's probably something any DIY-savvy handyman could figure out on their own.

Hmmm. A gooseneck USB-powered laptop LED light and a plug-in USB power supply would do the same job a Hell of a lot cheaper.
Here's the lamp, for ten bucks: http://www.geekalerts.com/10-led-gooseneck-usb-lamp/
Here's a USB power supply with its own batteries, so the light stays on even if mains power fails, for $20: http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/travelpower/b4b6/images/

I have no interest in making my room look like the bathroom on an airplane.

Old Man Dotes...Firstly a dinky USB LED light is nice if you are travelling via air or land but this is actually a lamp. Its going to give you much a brighter light to see by.
I think the reviewer also fails to get the price tag is more than adequate for a device that will last probably more than 50.000 hours and means never having to change lightbulbs every few months. LED light bulbs designed for replacing filament light bulbs are not cheap but are at least more enviromentally friendly than CFL bulbs and will not contain toxic metals like mercury and have the potential to have their LED cores replaced once their lifetime as been reached.
