Kodak gets into the solar charger business

Kodak gets into the solar charger business

Kodak, now that film is pretty much completely dead, is broadening their horizons. Evidence: the new Kodak Solar Charger KS100-C +2. Don't let the horrible product name distract you; this is a pretty handy little USB charger.

You can juice up this portable battery either via the sun (which takes a whopping 28 hours) or via USB through your computer (which still takes 14 hours). Once it's charged, you can hook your phone, music player or camera up to it and have it work for a whole lot longer. Not a bad little device if you're planning to be away from power outlets for a while, at least if you're willing to be patient.

It drops in September for $40.

Wait, wait, wait... that can't be 28 consecutive hours, can it? I mean, the sun isn't out that long. Am I missing something about solar power? Does it charge simply using light? Indoor or just outdoor (like on an overcast day)? (Yeah, I'm really not up on my green technology.)

Regardless, I don't see solar energy catching on until they can improve the technology's efficiency.
