In case you haven't heard, those Google geniuses are at it again. In September, you'll be able to browse to Google Wave, called a "personal communications and collaboration tool." This open-source, web-based wonder will let you combine your e-mail, instant messaging and social networking onto one personalized page on the web. Soon, you'll be communicating in "waves."
After the jump, take a look at the ten-minute presentation (it's well worth your time), and you'll see what makes Wave so revolutionary. It simply changes the way email, instant messages and social networking work, and gives you new ways to communicate with each other. It even lets you share files by dragging and dropping, and give any of your contacts access to them. It also works on mobile devices. This is going to be big:

While the idea is revolutionary I don't think it's going to change anything. Simply because of the adoption issue; no one likes to change e-mail addresses and services.
I'm positive people would rather stay with whatever crap they have now than move to a better service at the cost of inconvenience.

OK so it's Seesmic and GMail all in one...Cool...not necesarily ground breaking...Yahoo is going to do this as well. If ya can't beat them Join them?

True, people don't like changing email addresses, but who isn't to say that the system can not be implemented alongside an existing email system and incorporate your email address. Its versatile enough to be doable.

Google is building this as an open standard, so anyone can host Wave servers, much like anyone can host email servers. So yes, Yahoo probably will do this. And businesses. And universities. And college students... it goes on.

Didnt Opera make the same claim a few months ago. "Changing the web" has become the new "Wait there's more" tag.

I'm wondering if the name "wave" is a nod to Firefly/Serenity...

The way this thing is supposed to work is how I would like to work and network.
It might not make a splash when introduced to the cloud, but Yahoo!/MS will certainly cannibalize it enough to make the principles second nature within a few years.
@Haplo781 keen observation.

Wondering why you would change email as with any other Google app/api it will integrate with existing accounts....as for technology its light years ahead of the likes of Yahoo, please did not even know people still used yahoo.

The biggest problem it solves is that you no longer have to write "See comments inline"

No one realizes that Google came up with this so that they can see EVERYTHING you are doing. They are known for sharing, giving or selling your info to anyone who will ask. This is just another way of Google getting more info on you in order to do direct marketing. Big brother at the Corp. level.
