UK-based designer Nick Fisher has dreamed up a folding electric motorcycle called Evergreen that may be too simple or just right depending on how you look at it. You probably wouldn't want to take this thing on the highway, but then again you really don't need to drive an SUV to a grocery store, do you?
Other than the vehicle's skeletal structure, the rear wheel houses both an electric motor and a small storage area. The movement of the forward wheels as well as regenerative braking would help keep the Evergreen going. And, when you're not riding, it collapses down into an easy-to-pull form much like a wheeled suitcase.
Check out the galley below for more of Fisher's Evergreen.

Cool - though I think if I'd designed it, I would've also had it so it powers itself by eating its own grass, some of which it gives to the rider... and I'd make it fly as well. Faster than the speed of light, AND it can fold up so small that you can fit it in a matchbox.
And I'd make it minimal. I mean really, really minimal... so minimal that it isn't actually visible, or even there - You probably wouldn't want to take it on the highway, but then again you really don't need to drive an SUV to a grocery store, do you?
No, you don't.

The size of a matchbox? Man, I don't want to carry around something as thick as a matchbox, can't we make it thinner?
How bout we make it flatten out to the thickness of a piece of paper, and make it lightly stick to your skin, so when you're done riding it, you can stick it on your chest under your shirt. And, it would charge up by using your body heat as a power source.
Yeah, that'll work. Now all we gotta do is.....build it, right?

Some people simply should not be allowed to design vehicles.

This thing sucks, the concept is cool, but this thing sucks. If you look at the diagram it shows a shadow dude sitting on... well nothing, he has the rear tires shoved up his... leg area, and foot pegs are nice, I want to see the person with a tire in their... leg holding their feet off the ground for the 2-5 mile ride to the grocery store. Lastly, the point of driving an SUV to a grocery store is so that you can get more than a six pack, the storage area on this doesn't even look like it can hold that, maybe that is the point though, you will need a beer to help you muster the courage to get back on it for the ride home.

It has four wheels therefore not a motorcycle
By moviedemon at 12:20 PM ON 07/09/09
Yeah, the diagrams make it hard to see what's going on here, but at first glance it looks like the driver would have the rear wheels right up his bum.
But if you look at the rotated 3D rendering, the driver actually sits between the rear wheels - that is, assuming his rear end is pretty darned skinny.
Most people's butts are way too wide for that thing! ;-)

Turning it would be easy. Stop, get off, haul the front end around where you want it, get back on and go straight.
Until a truck runs you over because you were stupid enough to buy one of these foolish contraptions in the first place.
And yes, I ride a motorcycle, this ain't no motorcycle, it's modern art with a battery box.

Looks like the design from the movie "Tron". Also, won't the groceries be tossed about.

I love the idea, and it looks really cool, but...
How would someone get his or her legs up over the back wheels to the outside of the bike? It doesn't look physically possible. And the seat looks too narrow for the backside of an average human being.
Could you show us a set of panoramic pictures with a real human being riding it, up a hill preferably?
Then I might be convinced! Thank you.

As a replacement for any sort of normal vehicle, I don't see this working. With more refinements it could be a useful vehicle for train commuters whose office is not real close to the station.

Maybe it could be powered by those flatteries (flat batteries) mentioned in another post...

Elegant (ok, it sounded good in thought) proof that the flat earth society exists!
Hmmm... what's the word for "not worth the electrons it takes to burn it". Maybe too harsh, but the presentation didn't match the product and was too much marketing hype for it's own good.
wacked.

as a quad its not all that bad once you get past the initial shock. Will it actually be road worthry? How much juice will the light set pull from the power sourse and what will be the speed and max distance to charge? A lot of questions still need to be answered. Keep me informed.

wellll...the majority of the comments above are so ridulously idiotic and small minded im embarressed for the poeple that wrote them.. Firstly this was designed from start to finish in 3 weeks as a second year university project. its purely a conceptual experiment. obviously the result is ambitious but the problems that people have highlighted could so easily be resovled i dont know why u would bother writing them. Anyway if a design is not ambitious, new and asks questions then what is the point in designing anything new at all? new design that challenges convention is what drives technology and society forward, so poeple just relax expand your thoughts a bit instead of just pointing out obvious small floors ( my personal favourite is "wont the groceries be tossed about?"...) but i guess poeople thought it was a more developed concept than it actually is..and that it was designed by a professional or something. for some reason this website didnt put up the presenation board that explains most of the design. its the 8th image down of this web site http://www.tuvie.com/evergreen-electric-inner-city-transportation-by-nick-fisher/
thanks for all yours comments :)
