Designer Marlies Romberg rebels against the world of plastic and aluminum with her final project at the Utrecht School of the Arts. Dear Diary 1.0 is a wooden table with the keyboard laser cut into it, a computer tucked neatly underneath, and a flat panel built into a wooden structure. The whole thing is just downright clever.
It's not clear whether this is a working model, but we do know it's made with wood and brass. One thing's for sure, the artist makes a good case for precision craftsmanship with her exquisite woodwork, a delightful counterpoint to today's increasingly plastic world.
Take a look at a two more pics after the jump, one showing more table details, and a tight shot of that laser-carved wooden keyboard:

But then you’d have to worry about viruses AND termites.

Unfortunately, I see 1 flaw with this. It is housing a MAC computer as can be seen by the word "Command" on the key to the left of the spacebar.

@ rewade
its funny how you consider that a flaw, when it actually portrays an already beautiful computer laser etched into wood. i like it, and even if it were a thick boxy desktop like most other brands, i would still enjoy the precision craftsmanship.

@Rewade
it has 2 buttons on the mouse. are you sure it's a mac?

Does it come in a more modern, metal version? Then i would get one I think... The keyboard in the desk thing is crazy. Add a touch screen so you don't need a mouse and boom... keep you drinks off of my desk please.

This is obviously a "WORM" wood table and no respectable termite would even consider devouring it.

Poor Rewade. Spreadsheet boy still hasn't figured out the creative ones have all switched to Macs.
By SmokyJoe at 10:44 AM ON 07/19/09
It may be "environmentally friendly" but it isn't ergonomic. It should have at least had a split keyboard since it isn't movable.
Although it does not matter if it is a mac or pc, they can both be formatted and run linux.

I would buy one, what a beautiful and well- thought out piece!!!! This woman should sell them, she'd amke a bundle, maybe....
By atyrian at 9:33 PM ON 07/20/09
This is magnificent job of craftsmanship, one wonders how long it took to make this and if she will be selling these. I will put in an order for one immediately if it is available. Well Done!!!

I have a wooden computer.

It's a lovely mod. I would love to see it in lazercut aluminium, or black plastic, with some kind of spill resistance.
And as for the type of system:
It could be PC hardware with MacOS, It could be mac hardware with windows '95, hell it could be vacuum tube based hardware with android on it, or A gameboy classic, a massive pixelmap screen and psp software.
Unless you actually modify hardware/OS systems for a living, just shut it. Thanks to Open Source apps, everything is cross compatible and either system is now only a matter of preference.
