Climb walls like Spiderman with these special vacuum gloves

Climb walls like Spiderman with these special vacuum gloves

Most of us dream about having super powers, and having the ability to climb walls like Spiderman is high on most people's list. Instead of dreaming, BBC TV presenter Jem Stansfield has done something about it. His custom made vacuum gloves provide enough grip to let him climb a sheer wall, even if it isn't quite as elegant as Spidey's setup.

In the video you can see Stansfield climbing a 100 foot building for a new BBC science show called Bang Goes The Theory. As you can see, it gets a bit dicey towards the top.

This was done on mythbusters before. They didn't take as much time with their apparatus but it is still pretty much the exact same thing.

By DXprt at 6:12 PM ON 07/25/09

Yeah, Mythbusters made an almost exact version of that apparatus, with a magnet version having leg holders just like his. Can some one say British tv show rip off?

By Boomer at 9:01 PM ON 07/25/09

not british show rip off.
thats like saying XX is a ripoff beer of Corona.
or Jimmy Bean to Jack Daniels.

a guy just made a vacuum, NOT magnet
aparatus for climbing walls.
and without a huge budget.

go gets some tampons.
GG,
nice try though.

By McDuff at 9:39 PM ON 07/25/09

Mythbusters did a vacuum too though, and it wasn't done that elaborately.

By Boomer at 12:53 AM ON 07/26/09

@McDuff.
yes, but he was assimilating it to the magnet
"version" MythBusters did. thats why
i said what i said.

By MacBeth at 3:06 AM ON 07/26/09

@Boomer
Mythbusters did the exact same thing just not as involved.
They gave themselves a day or a few hours to put something together that could walk up walls. JamIe did the Magnets and Adam did the Vacuum.

Wow, pretty slick. And he didn't chickenshit out like the Mythbuster did. Tho with the contraption Adam was using I think I'd have been nervous too.

By SteelFox at 1:54 PM ON 07/27/09

I don't think Adams problem was fear as much as lack of physical fitness. He was pretty worn out by the climb

By Samir1stdude at 1:50 PM ON 08/02/09

regardless, it was cool to watch

By Takara at 10:26 PM ON 08/03/09
