World\'s first portable Blu-ray, the Panasonic DMP-B15 is ready to hit the street

Panasonic was showing off their portable Blu-ray player at CES way back in January, but it's finally released with pricing and availability scheduled for later in June. The DMP-B15 will sell for $799.95, and is the world's first stand-alone Blu-ray player.

The DMP-B15 has a 8.9-inch LCD screen, Internet accessibility and BD Live.

"The B15 is a unique and versatile High Definition player that gives the consumer the ultimate entertainment experience, whether traveling or in the home as either an additional Blu-ray player or the primary source for 1080p viewing. Because it also features the VIERA CAST functionality, the B15 can transform any TV into an IPTV with the capability to access select web sites. At a time when many families own multiple TVs, the B15 provides a number of entertainment options, giving them the ability to enjoy HD video in any room where there is an HDTV," said Richard Simone, Director, Panasonic Entertainment Group.

YouTube and Blu-ray on the same player — talk about contrasts in quality.

Blu-ray is still very far behind DVD in the consumer's eye. Will this great-looking portable player be the final push for you to make the jump to Blu-ray? Why not?

Blu-Ray is dead; give it up. And $800 for a portable BD? What are they smoking? And why aren't they sharing?
