Good ideas don't stay bottled up. Witness tabbed Web browsers, accelerometers, and now motion controllers for game consoles. In a move that's more a concession to the Nintendo Wii than a new-product reveal, Sony today announced a motion controller for the PlayStation 3.
The controller is shaped like a wand with a glowing sphere at the top. Demonstrating the controller at E3 today, Sony said it was "sub-millimeter" precise. It's not coming for a while, though — the PS3 wand is due to launch in spring 2010.
While we agree with Sony that "some experiences need buttons," we're still way more excited about Microsoft's controllerless Project Natal. But nice job playing catch-up, Sony.

I have the eye toy. this one had lit tips on the wands and what appeared to be a very plain background behind the actual user.
Don't expect results like that without the same environment.

This controller is a must have if you are an avid gamer. I would love to see this used on a fighting game.

Wonder how this compares to a Wiimote with the new sensitivity attachment on it.

Wish they'd announce a better BluRay controller. The current one has no backlight and the STOP button is in a horrid position.
