Super-sharp and unusually bright projectors are on the way from Epson, thanks to the company's latest tech. Epson has invested heavily in its HTPS (high-temperature polysilicon) panels, consisting of mirrors, a prism, and a trio of LCDs that are just under an inch in diameter. This configuration is said to crank out brightness of more than 5000 lumens, and display richer colors and higher contrast, all in glorious 1080p.
This is especially remarkable because Epson's existing projector technology is already capable of superb color and adequate brightness, which I've tested right here with my own eyes. If Epson can keep the price down on this new tech (which it's calling "high-end"), products containing this panel will be the home theater projectors to beat. If we're lucky, we might see projectors incorporating these spiffy new panels by this Fall.
