Man builds gigantic Bumblebee Transformer in his front yard

Man builds gigantic Bumblebee Transformer in his front yard

Tom Rhodes likes Transformers. So, naturally, he built an 18-foot-tall, 1,200-pound Bumblebee robot out of an old Volkswagen Beetle.

Sure, in the movies Bumblebee is a Camaro, but you can't really fault him for that. He even lets people come and check it out despite it being in his front yard. The Autobots would approve of such generosity.

You are aware that is a G1 (generation 1) version of Bumble Bee, aren't you?

By mdNomad at 3:58 PM ON 06/19/09

uhhh... The original Bumble Bee was a VW Bug. Go to YouTube and watch cartoon episode one.

By Observer at 4:58 PM ON 06/19/09

Um yeah, Bumblebee was a bug first. Why take the time to write an article on something without doing at least a modicum of research??

By Seamus at 6:39 PM ON 06/19/09

I would guess that the writer of this article was only an infant when the first Transformers came out and NEVER knew that Transformers existed before the FIRST Live Action Transformers.......And yes so you can update your information, there was an Animation Transformers Movie ....Called The Transformers: The Movie...It came out in 1986, most likely while you were still in diapers.

I think that is AWESOME! I want one in my yard.

If you want to read a much better article on this go here:

In the comments it is said that he is going to do Prime in Truck Form and then maybe Soundwave after that (he already has the semi in his back yard to start the work on Prime).

yes the origonal bumble bee was a vw beetle

they were the first through for it when the movie came along. but vw didnt want violence assoiated with one of there vehicles.

(kind of ironic dont you think considering were vw got there start the beetle and the thing both were designed by hitler) lol

Anyone for a rousing sing-along of "You've Got the Touch"?

By bduares at 3:29 PM ON 06/21/09

@arc: need to get your history straight.

Hitler was not a designer of anything. Original VW's were designed and built by Ferdinand Porsche.

All Hitler did was say he wanted someone to build a car that everyone could afford to own and drive.

He also commissioned the world's best motorway system, which Eisenhower in the USA then copied and had built after the war and called the US Interstate Highway system.
