Incredible Shrinking OS: xpPhone offers desktop power in your pocket

This week's tech news will likely be owned by iPhone 3.0 hype, but another smart phone from China called the xpPhone deserves its own share of attention. Unveiled at the recent Computex 2009 in Taipei, the phone is purportedly the first mobile phone to run Windows XP.

Several important details regarding the phone, such as its processor specs, were kept secret by the company but the prototype device appears to offer a number of functions. The xpPhone features a QWERTY keypad, a USB port, SIM card slot, and an LCD touchscreen. No details on pricing or availability, but if this works as advertised it may raise the expectation bar on even the latest iteration of the iPhone.

Give me monitor, keyboard, and mouse connections over a "dock" through that USB port and you've got something I'm interested in.

The qwerty keyboard is required for CTRL+ALT+DELETE which i'm sure you'll need quite often, plus you'll need antivirus, which will slow it to a crawl.

The feature and the idea is wonderful, seems it has everything that you wanted from your desktop except do not know how it perform with such a compressed size. Even some applications wouldn't run smoothly in netbook and this is even smaller . Must use it to give the comment. What about Window 7, it is releasing soon, can this device run Window 7.

Mac is overpriced JUNK. The admitted their OS was sub-par and went with a *nix platform. THEN they realized that their hardware was crap and went with Intel.

How much more evidence do you need? The only reason why virus writers don't bother with Macs is because they don't feel the need to bother with tree hugging vegans drawing pictures.
