GameDr shuts down game consoles when time has expired

The GameDr Video Game Timer is designed to force kids to only play video games for a specific period of time each day. It's for lazy parents who don't want to tell their kids to shut the consoles down themselves, apparently, as it simply cuts the power to the console when the timer is up.

Now I've got to feel for the kids who have to put up with this. When mom peeks her head in and says wrap it up, you at least have a chance to finish the level and save your game. But this thing is cold; it'll cut you off even if you need but 10 seconds more to finish a save. Just parent in person. It's cheaper.

Parent? That's a verb? You mean, I'm NOT supposed to set my kids in front of the TV and have the Wiggles raise them? I'm NOT supposed to have the schools teach them about everything from addition to morality? So, hold up! You mean that I'm actually supposed to ENGAGE my children? I think you're wrong about that. The government is saying that it's NOT my responsibility, and they've never been wrong before. I think I will buy this thing. That way I can get back to my three mistresses, my ding-dong addiction, and my government stimulus check which is going STRAIGHT to that Segway I've been wanting.

Uh. Yeah.

Just have your buddy bring over the powercord from HIS game console.

Wow, just wow. I really hope this is just bait from child protective services to smoke out bad parents. Anyone that buys this for it's marketed purpose needs to be beaten, publicly. 02 is right, just unplug the cord at the console and grab one from the family printer/computer/coffee pot and off you go. Hell, just cut the zip tie and by pass the taper switch it. Or, snag the code when you parents ask you how to program the thing in the first place.

This is just sad. Cool product, horrible marketing.

I don't see anything that looks like a lock on it. Do they assume kids are that stupid?

My aunt got a different version of this years ago, the sudden shutdown killed my cousins xbox during a save. after that happened she got him a new xbox and got rid of the stupid thing.

I think this is a great idea, and probably not for the reasons you're thinking of right now. If my parents had used this on me when I was a kid, i wouldn't have said awwww damn now i have to go outside, I would have attempted to cut the cord and splice on my own 3 pronged wall outlet, sure dangerous but hell I'd be getting great hands on experience. On the down side of this argument, it also encourages kids to be more rebellious and will probably lead to a life of crime and drugs.
