After we tipped off our NBC colleagues at the Tonight Show last week about website Serious Lunch's clever overlay of elements from various Mario games, Conan mentioned the coincidental similarity between Nintendo Super Mario's Mushroom Kingdom and his new stained glass monologue backdrop. Watch and enjoy as Conan's artists take the gag to the hilt.

While there's not a specific Mario level that looks just like this, the shapes are way too similar for this to be an accident, aren't they? Was this an easter egg planted by Conan's set designers? They're not telling. Nintendo sure got a kick out of it, though — Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime called it "great."
