Collaborative builder robot would be the best Ikea wingman ever
A team at Europe's Joint Action Science and Technology project, or JAST, is working to develop a robot that understands enough about the task at hand to think along, and even tell someone when they're making an error. The end goal is to produce 'bots that would be able to work alongside humans and complete shared tasks.
In the video demonstration above, JAST's robot knows what the end product is, and has an idea of how to get there. Its human companion really isn't coming through, though, and the robot helps by correcting errors, announcing which piece should be next, and even handing over parts to help get the job done.
Imagine having this 'bot around when you're trying to put something together. Instead of those spare instructions, Ikea should just send a robot home with every customer.

Great! It's bad enough Dad looks over the shoulder and micromanages during projects, now we can have robots do it! The bad thing is the human element didn't even say thank you.

So, there's goes more human jobs! Why hire Yes men or even system architects when Execs can have the robot come up with the perfect solution. 'Course this also lead to robot domination when they organize well enough to orchestrate a beutifully laid & subtle plan through all the world corporate machines.

Yeah, they send a robot to help you build something without instructions. Only problem is the instructions needed to put the robot together are in binary instead of English.
