Xbox 360 to get full-body motion control?

Xbox 360 to get full-body motion control?

Thanks to its motion-sensing capabilities, the Nintendo Wii has dominated this generation of the console war. But don't think Microsoft hasn't noticed. According to a pretty crazy rumor, they're working on a new system that will let you control games with your entire body.

The rumored add-on for the Xbox 360 would consist of a sensor bar that didn't require any controllers. You'd be able to punch and kick, pinch and grab, with the game recognizing all of it. How this magical system would work is a mystery, but it sounds pretty awesome to us. With E3 coming up in June, we may not have long to wait to find out.

Honestly I don't think there is a huge "mystery" behind how this would work. Motion tracking isn't exactly new technology anymore... The only real mystery is why it took so long for somebody to make one, oh that's right it's been done... Although I'll admit I'd expect more from Microsoft then I would from a company like Camtrax.

motion tracking isn't new but the sensor needs something to tell it what it's seeing. recognizing say an arm and correlating it with an in game arm as a posed to a blowing curtain. The programming would have to be amazing. I prefer the ring system

I understand where you are coming from, but in theory once the system determines that your arm is your arm it should be able to keep track of it. And yes that would take some very good software. Unless of course it is dependent on say arm, and leg straps to help keep track of things. These straps would not be classified as controllers but in essence that is what they would be. Hopefully Microsoft is able to create something that doesn't require such equipment, that would be a nice piece of software!

My guess is that it will be just the 360 equivalent of the iToy for the ps2 and not have much extra behind it.

All the motions described in this article I have seen on my old iToy I never use anymore.

It sounds pretty impressive to me . Here's a quick rundown of capabilities mentioned:

* Full body and hand gesture control of games / characters.
* In fighting games you kick, punch, duck, dive, jump and so forth with your body.
* It also picks up small hand gestures like pinching, grabbing and scrolling.
* There will also be video conferencing and games with video.
* Trivia game over the internet with live images of each person playing. When a question pops up, they can clap to buzz in.
* You can "move objects on your screen" and the other party can see what you're doing in real time.
* Sensor detects only the person playing, not folks observing on the couch.
