Waterboarding for dogs? Dog-o-Matic, the automatic dog-washing vending machine

Waterboarding for dogs? Dog-o-Matic, the automatic dog-washing vending machine

Just look at that pathetic doggie, all wet, and trapped inside a watery compartment that must look to him like a torture chamber. That's the Dog-o-Matic, the dog-washing brainchild of French entrepreneur Romain Jarry, who's seen some success with the vending machine in France, and plans to spread it to the U.K. next year.

The notion of spending up to $47 a pop to lock your dog into an automatic waterboarding device might be just fine in Europe, but surely this couldn't be a success in the dog-worshiping United States. Here, the dogs' owners would probably insist on joining the pitiful pooch inside that Dog-o-Matic. Try putting a cat in there and see what happens.

Says the inventor about his dog washing vending machine, "It doesn't take long to wash the dog — usually a few minutes. The longest part is the drying. The dogs don't seem to get bored. They just sit there and they come out clean." Good luck with that.

Given time, I am sure Nancy Pelosi will deny she ever was informed about this...

I have sceen a much more humane version of this on TV once. The dog entered from the back and put its head through a hole then its body was washed dishwasher style. The dog in the show didn't seem to mind it much, but then again it was a golden retriever and those guys love water.

ROTFL. priceless

By AngryJonny at 8:43 PM ON 05/18/09

I can't believe how stupid this is. This would traumatize the living hell out of my dog. There's no way I'd put him through this.

By MatthiasF at 10:06 PM ON 05/18/09

Further proof that Europe is still full of monsters.

By BDK at 10:42 PM ON 05/18/09

Water-boarding your dog. Absolutely cruel. If you have any interest in using this, may I suggest first you go to the car wash and be pushed through it alone with your eyes open.

By Matt at 10:56 PM ON 05/18/09

How insulting that you compare what amounts to a washing machine to waterboarding. Do you even know what waterboarding is? They slant you upside down and pour water into your nose and mouth, where it stays, so you feel like you're drowning. Don't throw around political buzzwords just so people will oppose what I don't doubt is a completely harmless and mess free way of washing a dog.

Really disgusting and cruel, this is not an invention but a torture device

By Planks at 11:41 PM ON 05/18/09

Hey Matt why don't you take a chill pill you e-bully. I'm pretty sure they know what waterboarding is...they weren't comparing one action to the other, but rather the effects each has on its user. I'm almost positive that dog is having a miserable time. Dogs grow to trust their owners, and an owner hand washing a dog is not only a bonding moment for both, but is also healthy for the relationship between the person and dog. But hey I may be wrong, perhaps the next time I don't feel like giving my child a bath I'll just throw it in the front-loading washing machine...

By FavoriteHead at 8:37 AM ON 05/20/09

i've seen this used on a cat.

you feel kinda bad for the cat, but i couldn't help but laugh because when they pulled the cat out he looked like he was gonna pull a knife on somebody

By Nikki at 1:22 PM ON 05/21/09

This isn't a new invention. A pet supply store near my house has had one for nearly 5 years.

By Melissa Hedwall at 1:45 PM ON 05/21/09

I saw this on the Daily Mail site and found it horrible. That dog is terribly frightened. If someone is that lazy that they cannot bathe their own dog or pay to have someone bathe them, they should never have become that dogs parent. Absolutely HORRIBLE.

By Melissa Hedwall at 1:51 PM ON 05/21/09

@Matt: This is very similar to waterboarding for the dogs since they don't know how to hold their breath and WILL TAKE IN WATER up their noses and mouths because they don't know any better. They don't associate this with swimming where most dogs instinctively know how to breathe.

By JediTalen at 3:33 PM ON 05/21/09

A couple years ago I saw a variant of this concept profiled on I think Ripley's. They actually put a kid (a 7 yo Boy) in the machine and he came out clean and happy!

By puck at 3:57 PM ON 05/21/09

can i get one for me? I'm too lazy to shower

By Chewy at 5:28 PM ON 05/21/09

I wonder what would happen if you put a dog in there that likes chasing the high powered water of a hose. Most dogs look like that any time you wash them. doesn't matter if it's outside on a beautiful day or in a tub. Most dogs don't like being washed. I can't wait til PETA defaces them with red spray paint.

Another note: Every person that goes to prison or the military have to go thru worse than that.

Typical knee jerk reactions...wait. How does the dog get dry? Who thinks up this stuff? Someone with way more time on their hands than I have on mine....

By Katie at 12:09 AM ON 05/26/09

this is the most cruel thing ever! that doggie in there looks like he is dying, and totally frightened, whoever came up with that should be sue for animal cruelty and get shut down...wash your own pet already!!

By Debbie Elliott at 7:21 AM ON 05/26/09

Have people lost their minds?!? Would you put a toddler in this thing? Then why put a dog in there? My dog would be clean, but thoroughly traumatized. If you're too lazy to wash your dog or take it to the groomer, you shouldn't own one. This is horrible.

By Anonymous at 2:22 PM ON 05/26/09

where can i buy the machine?

By ScreaminMiMi at 12:04 PM ON 06/09/09

wOw .. cruelty beyond compare. That pOOr dawg lOOkz like it is drowning. I pray that something this cruel neVer receives a US Patent or the inventor the permission to bring this torture machine to the US of A.

By Sense & Sensibility at 6:28 PM ON 06/09/09

I have seen this machine operate in person. It is not a torture machine at all. It is more like standing in a rain storm. Water does not shoot about at high pressure from all directions nor did I see any dogs go crazy. The dogs looking out the glass door is a normal reaction from most dogs looking out at their owners. I saw some dogs who knew the score want to jump in!

No people who call or compare the wash it torture don't know what they are talking about. I put it down to people want to knock the other guy to prevent them from getting ahead. It is the old 8th grade stuff and I am not interested in the opinions of 8th graders.

By Alex at 10:51 PM ON 09/12/09

I think that this device is disgusting and no sane person who has one ounce of respect for any living thing let alone one that you are meant to live with and nurture would put their animal through a process this horrific. I read in an advertisement for one of these inhumane wash boxes that during the cleaning process a “mild” shampoo is pumped out during the “cycle.” I don’t want soapy water sprayed all over my dogs face, in her nose and eyes. On top of that they are trapped in that watery oven for TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES alone to dry! And there will definitely be people who invest in this and just throw their dogs in and walk away… like you would with a dirty glass into a dishwasher. This product should be taken of the market immediately.
