You can try using positive reinforcement to get your kids to study. But what if that doesn't work? Well then, it's time to try some more medieval methods.
The study ball is a literal ball and chain that comes equipped with a timer. Simply set how long you want your little miscreant to study and attach the ball to their ankle. When the time is up, it'll unlock, allowing them to leave their rooms. Until then, however, it's study time. Or trying to run out of a burning house with a ball and chain time, but let's just hope that doesn't happen.

So... wait. Is this a gimmicky hunk of plastic or can this device actually limit the physical movements of someone under 150 pounds?

This won't help kids with a TV in their room, or a computer for that matter. But this is seriously an awful idea.
According to the original website, Dude-Man, the ball is 21lbs making it "difficult to move".
However, if you don't have kids, according to Curiosite, "...it’s a pretty decorative item that’s the perfect accessory for any room in your home."

I can see this being misused. Also, couldn't this be deemed child abuse?

@Leaora
Only if the kid whacks someone with it. It's 21lbs. Most kida I know of can pickup 21lbs easily.
Studytime morningstar.

Does it matter? It's pretty comical... (if you think about it... if your kid isn't studying.. what makes you think that a simple 21lb ball will make them - its gonna be a gimmick)
@Leaora Child abuse? Really...

Some guy in vegas got 15 years in prison because he chained his girl to keep her from the fridge. So I guess this would get you 5?
