Most kids like to climb trees, but as we grow older, the thought of scampering up 15 feet to find a comfy branch loses much of its appeal. So to let the rest of us get back to nature, Swiss designer Michel Bussein created the Growing Chair.
By planting four trees under the legs of a hollow plastic frame, they soon grow into a chair like form that get denser and stronger with time. Eventually you remove the plastic, and are left with a chair shaped tree chair that might support a weedy little Swiss guy, if not the average American. Of course, those of us with heftier proportions could always go with the Grass Chair.

As soon as I read that, I thought an average American to be over 150 lbs. lol.

The "average American" is going to need a redwood tree planted under his "Growing Chair" to support his fast-food fueled growing body.

Hey now. As an American, I...um...wish I could take offense at that without being a hypocrite.

Just one thing: After you take off the plastic, once you have a complete chair, what happens when the plant keeps on growing? Or do you have to kill it off before your chair takes over your patio?

Finally when someone asks if you got a weed up your butt, you can truthfully say, "Yes! And I'm proud of it 'cause I got me a Growing Chair!"

Okay, the idea of a growing chair is something creative reminds me of something I had seen in the Smurfs as a child but honestly........Trees are homes for all types of insects and the last thing I would want to sit on is something with termites, wild roaches and things of that nature.

I assume the chair would continue to grow upwards, providing you shade as it keeps it's chair-shape base. The whole idea is returning to nature in appreciation, not killing it.
