Lucasfilm working on overhaul for Star Wars ride, Star Tours

Lucasfilm working on overhaul for \<i\>Star Wars\<\/i\> ride, Star Tours

Codenamed "LODESTAR," there's a secret LucasFilm shoot going on right now that would have any Star Wars fan wishing they could be a fly on the wall. That's because the likes of Boba Fett, Admiral "It's A Trap!" Ackbar, Tusken raiders and man-behind-the-'bot Anthony Daniels, who brought C-3PO to life, are all in attendance. The part of me that rode this ride countless times a child is excited for more Star Wars content, but I'm a bit nervous thinking about how much of the revamp will feel like the prequels, whereas Star Tours right now is indisputably seated in the original trilogy. (The ride hasn't changed since it opened in 1987, after all.)

/Film has the scoop:

Our source reveals that the revamp will incorporate prequel characters (like Naboo citizens and Geonosians) along with many aliens from the original trilogy (Aqualish, Bith, Rodians, etc). In the action sequence, the Star Tours vehicle is now going to be chased by Boba Fett. C3PO and R2-D2 are still the hosts, and Anthony Daniels will be recording his parts this week. Admiral Ackbar holographically communicates with the Star Tours vehicle.
That doesn't sound too bad, though the ride as it stands it epic. It starts as you make your way toward the Endor moon, miss it completely, and end up in a field of comets, fighting off Star Destroyers and finally blowing up the Death Star. Being chased by Boba Fett sounds fun, but let's keep our fingers crossed and hope they do this venerable ride justice.

I am excited about this. I assume they are going to revamp the waiting line as well. I remember as a kid waiting in line for Star Tours was half the fun. But from what I here neither the wait or the ride have aged well. I hope its gets a nice well needed cleanup and revamp.

Honestly I'm just glad they aren't scrapping it like Universal did with the Back to the Future ride. It was dated too but it was always a ride I loved as a kid

I hope they also adjust the movement so it make people nauseous.

I hope they also adjust the movement so it **doesn't** make people nauseous.

Hah ! I hope they fix the movement as well ! I was pretty sick when I got out of this thing.

Star Tours >> Body Wars

That is all.

They should forget about Star Tours. BTW, Is there any chance Universal will bring back Back to the Future: The Ride. That was awesome!

Does anyone else think the voice of C3PO sounds like the ship from Flight of the Navigator?

By PeepsMcJuggs at 4:41 AM ON 05/07/09

Deraith, that's because it's another droid. C-3PO isn't in the ride itself.

I remember how excited I was to check out this ride when I was a kid, but that was twenty years ago...I saw it again a few years back, and it's way past it's prime. The Star Trek: The Experience they had in Vegas was lightyears better (pun very much intended)...too bad it shut down. I guess that's what happens when you stick a ride so far off the strip that nobody bothers to go see it.

By jla1987 at 7:33 AM ON 05/07/09

The Trek Experience is supposed to reopen next year off the strip. It will be cheaper so that's cool :)

Gotta love the voice of pee-wee herman performing as the onboard droid for this ride. Little chance they'll use him again.
Excited about the changes but good not to be since that can lead to dissapointment. Lastly does anyone realize how copyrighted the pirated video of the ride is???

Star Tours @ Tomorrowland (in Disneyland) -
Should Have Never Replaced Adventures Through Inner Space (They Should Have Placed The Ride In The America Sings Building) / Needs Updating (There Are IMAX Motion Rides Featuring Better Technology Today) \ Needs A Better Queue Area (More Activities For Those Waiting In Line) / Shouldn't Get Rid Of Paul Ruben's Narration As The Robot Navigator (They Should Have Him Narrate A New Character) ...

By Sal M at 3:38 PM ON 05/08/09

I'm not completely sure, but I think they HAVE been redoing the waiting line script. The wife and I have gone a few times over the last couple years, and I swear that the banter is only about 50% - 75% the same as it was six months ago.
