British guy builds smallest car in the world

Small cars are one of the solutions to our energy problems, but this guy's gone too far. Thanks to 47-year-old Terry Watkins of the U.K., you're now looking at the world's smallest car, an absurd 39 inches tall, 26 inches wide and 51 inches long (that's almost half the size of the current world record holder), and powered by an engine normally seen on lawn mowers.

The chassis started out as a children's toy car, and after Watkins bolted on working headlights and tail lights, windshield wipers, turn signals and a horn, he was allowed to tack on a license plate and make it fully street legal. Now, you might see him scooting around the streets of Staffordshire in this little crazy car at speeds of up to 40mph.

Never mind what would happen to you if this puny vehicle got into an accident — it gets 70 miles per gallon! Want to see how he built it? Take a look at this video:

He even put the little windy-thingy on the back of it. Priceless! That completes the whole "Toy Car" look.

Nice car and 70 mpg ..but what about family car? I don't think that that small car will not safe in USA....? Cooper and Smart Cars are okay for the USA but not 100 % safer?

Is there room in the back seat for my girlfriend and me??? to make whoopie?

By DarrianAshoka at 12:52 PM ON 05/22/09

That is small. I used to be a Honda 600 car mechanic back in the early 1980's, which was the smallest car import to the USA. It had a 2 cylinder air cooled engine that shared oil with the trany/differential. You can see photos of them at http://mind-temple.com/600/ . We turned a lot of heads. The biggest complaint was how dangerous they would be when colliding with a large American built car. This tiny car would be even more dangerous with very poor visibility.
