Wiimotes get wireless induction charging

Wiimotes get wireless induction charging

Induction charging is a pretty awesome new technology that we're going to start seeing all over the place. What it does is allow you to charge gadgets with no wires; simply place the gadget on the charging surface and it'll juice up like magic. And now you can do this with your Wiimotes without taking the rubber sleeves off.

The Energizer Wiimote Induction Charging System lets you just toss your Wiimotes on it and it'll charge them up automatically. No plugs, no wires and no having remove the sleeves to get to the batteries. Get excited, because this is how you're going to charge up basically everything in the not-too-distant future.

So instead of having different dongles for each cell phone brand I'll have different pads for each cell phone. Thanks technology.

As a side not couldn't wiimotes use the same technology as those never-need-batteries flashlights. They shake to charge. Pizoelectric buttons should take care of the rest.

Wow this sound a lot like the tech Nicolie Tesla worked on.

Looks a lot like the tech that my old cordless phone used to charge itself.

@EnOne...That technology that you are talking about, the one in the shake to charge flashlights is basically a mechanically powered device. It uses magnetic induction to charge a capacitor or rechargeable battery to power said device. Its based on principles by Faraday. Wiimotes would indeed be good recepients of this if the power demands could be addressed. This type of application usually works best on low power devices.

This is old technology... big whoop. Just like how eyeglass lens manufacturers resurface with that Transitions junk every few years like it's cutting edge, and it was available in the 80's.

"Induction charging is a pretty awesome new technology that.." yep, only been around a hundred years or so.

That said, it's only been implemented efficiently for about 20 years. And never found enough commercialized application to be economical. this is a good thing, popular platform, could reduce the cost. Eventually helping the electric, and hybrid auto's market. Gotta love applied physics.

@EnOne

You'll only need one pad to charge phones, or any device really, an alternating magnetic field can't be proprietary.
