In the interest of beating a horse as much as we possibly can regardless of its health, we present to you the third installment of Talking Gadget Theater. This time out, the Amazon Kindle 2 and the iPod Shuffle take on the climactic scene in The Empire Strikes Back, which brings up the question: Can gadgets have Oedipal complexes?
And in case you missed them, you can still see the two gadgets perform scenes from Blade Runner and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Has anyone else noted that the characters played by the Kindle eventually end up dead?

no no. Yep. It's very compelling. The emotion that came pouring from my speakers moved me to sleep.

I want my one minute and twenty seconds back...
More personality comes out of my old Amiga 1000 speech program. And yes, my Amiga 1000 still works.

Ah...yes. This is obviously the result of vacuous heaps of unimaginative jelly with a suits and ties on saying "We want to market our products to sci-fi geeks...Hey! I got an idea..what if we........."

I thought the Kindle voice was quite impressive. It's the best computer voice I've ever heard. I would love to have a program read streaming text such as a friendfeed chat stream to me with that quality.
I'm not really sure the Kindle's was a computer voice. Is this a joke?

Next do a scene from 2001, that would be a lot closer to the Kindle's abilities...

Nope, that's how the Kindle actually reads. It's really pretty impressive, though it does stumble sometimes and definitely gets some inflections here and there wrong. I was pretty surprised how well it did myself, though I even have trouble listening to actors read me books, so I don't use it all that much.

It's "New KITT" as Darth Vader and Dr. Stephen Hawking as Luke Skywalker.
