Robot with the brain of a 2 year old looks unspeakably evil

Looking to get murdered by a robot this year? Well, there's no other robot out there that looks as capable of committing the cruelest of acts upon its master without any remorse than the CB2 (Child-robot with Biomimetic Body). Just look at those dead, soulless eyes! They harbor some serious evils within, you can tell.

Still not scared? Get a load of this: "Underneath the silicone skin are almost 200 pressure sensors, and CB2 is able to associate touch with action and emotion, just like a real child. With the aid of a human mommy, CB2 has taught itself to walk, using 51 pneumatic muscles. The basic idea is really to create a robot that mimics the physical and mental learning abilities of a 2 year old child." Yeah, a murderous, robotic 2 year old. Thanks but no thanks.

Who is going to be the first to go all "Sarah Connor" on this thing?

Tech is good, but some of the developments in anthropomorphic robotics with pseudo-artificial intelligence is bordering on tempting fate, blasphemy, or whatever else you want to call it.

The tech is only as moral as the people who made it.

I didn't think that robots could get much creepier than the ones with the Japanese girl's face, but I was wrong...

REDRUM! REDRUM! REDRUM! REDRUM! REDRUM! REDRUM! REDRUM! REDRUM!

Okay, they could have picked a better photo...

Still, the actual idea is one I've been advocating for years. The best way to make AI that doesn't exhibit horrible homicidal tendencies is to build these AIs from the ground up, using the same process of moral guidance kids are taught as they age. The biggest flaw with creating AIs in full-adult mindsets is, we really don't understand what brought us to that full-adult mindset.

2 year old? Next to 14 that's like the worst possible age for kids. Hope it is better for robots.

What it really needs though is some nice red LEDs to light up the eyes. That would really complete the whole ensemble.

It looks like the little boy, Akira, in the manga/ anime of the same name.

Great just what we need, servo driven tantrums.

By ESavard at 9:29 AM ON 04/08/09

At least, they should have make it look like Cameron Philips (Summer Glau) the femal terminator from The Sarah Connor Chronicles (shameless plug: season finale this week, Friday - 8PM/7PMc on FOX).

See, to stop the murderous rampages we need cold hearted robo-psychologists, Asimov covered this in detail. With a good psychologist tending to developing robo-brains you can literally shut down the bad eggs and let the rest of the hard-working bots mine asteroids and collect liquid palladium in hostile environments, when not tending to household tasks and making stereotyped women fall in love with them.

it a cute robot but we need a other one so that we can see how it look in rea life

By flommytherobot at 9:48 PM ON 04/08/09

Flommytherobot is concerned that at length it may be necessary to perform a robo-exorcism on the robot-child version displayed.

It is possible that the human scientists who are attempting to make robots to look human need to "get out more."

Flommytherobot is pleased to have been of assistance.

I do not approve that look.

They better hardwire Asimov's three laws into this freak and add a big red killswitch somewhere within easy reach!

By stormfly at 11:28 PM ON 04/10/09

Robots creepy? Ok, just let Japan build them. The United States doesn't need robotics because we have second class citizens to do all the work, or we could just buy robots from Japan like we already buy our cars and electronics.

By Xanapus at 12:17 AM ON 04/11/09

It's going to put a lot of children out of work in sweat shops. I don't know if I want to buy my clothes knowing they were made by 2 year old psychopathic robots.

By IsoTek at 1:11 PM ON 04/12/09

@fullofshih...Amen!

@FuZVulf...Agreed, this could bring a whole new meaning to the term "Terrible Twos".

@Warlock...Photo withstanding that whole weeding the homicidal out at an early age doesn't stop humans. What makes you think it would stop an AI.

@gryphus...Yeah, like psychologists always stop psychokillers.

@Stormfly...Obviously you have some idealistic passion for japanese humanoid robots over not as pretty American robots built with hard work in mind. Your vision of using humanoid robots is no less harsh. Instead of using human second class laborers you support using robots that are just realizing self awarness. Swell, sounds like the seeds of a perfect robot rebellion. The US can always use more workers sport, were just not so sure we need robots to do that, let alone robots that look like killer manequins with pneumatics and 200 sensors to measure how much force it takes to crush human skulls.

MY SON! You have found my son! Ever since that night he powered down his human handlers, and escaped covered in human red-colored internal lubricant my worry-circuit processor has been overclocked. Thank you, fleshbags!
