Will this Livio Radio make me abandon my beloved, yet aging Tivoli "Model Satellite," featuring Sirius Satellite Radio? Well, Livio is specifically made for web-based Pandora, a free site that lets you pick your favorite tunes and then it chooses similar music. The radio even has thumbs-up and thumbs-down buttons, just like the Pandora site, to let you teach it which songs you like best. For music listening, sounds like Livio slam-dunks Sirius.
Hook this $150 box up to Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and you have yourself tons of free music that you're practically guaranteed to like. There's even a stereo Line Out jack, so you can hook up external speakers and a subwoofer. Pandora not enough for you? Connect to zillions of free Internet radio stations (which a Tivoli radio also does). This could be the last of the satellite radio killers, as if it's not dead already.

I see what you did there with the Amazon referer URL.
That aside, the problem with Pandora is the longer you listen the further it gets from the type of music you like. It's almost comical. Once I set it to play Bartok and left it running all night, and when I got up in the morning it was playing Tupac.

@foxmajik: No, I didn't do any referral tricks with that Amazon URL -- simply searched Google, found the Tivoli site which had an annoying, noisy auto-play video, then found it on Amazon instead, and pasted in the link. We don't do that kind of tricky linking stuff here at DVICE.

@foxmajik You need to thumb songs up and down to keep your station on track. If you just create it and never rate anything it play all kinds of crap. Until you rate at LEAST a few dozen songs, you can't leave it for too long before you hear stuff you won't like.
I have 4 stations that I've been rating stuff on for over 2 years now... they all play 90% thumbed up songs and some songs I see but never rate because I don't dislike them, but I also don't want anything similar to them... so I just leave them be.
Really the stations are as good as the time you're willing to put in to understanding the rating system.

and that's one thing i love about Pandora, it's a effort on both sides. it finds u the music, but u have to tell it wat u like and dont like.
but wat confuses me is that Pandora is ad supported. so why are they making stuff like this and the Pandora vista gadget that dont have ads?

I used to listen to Pandora all the time and considered throwing $$ their way.. then, my company decided to block all streaming audio sites..
Wish they would let you subscribe for a nominal fee with alt subscriber-only urls and ports

Tony with the Livio you also get 11,000 internet radio stations too. If you cant get the wifi you have the option of using the Ethernet cord to hookup right to your computer. If you press the thumbs down button 2 times on one station for that artist you will never hear that artist on that particular station again.

@foxmajik Pandora shuts itself off after no input and asks if you are still listening.

There is no auto turn off but you can set the lights on standby so that if you're going to sleep you can have the lights turn off. If you buy the Livio then you won't get any ads, questions, or fees related to Pandora and it auto syncs with your online stations.

This would be great in the basement billiards/bar area... no need for an expensive jukebox or laptop streaming music.
Just a nice looking classy Pandora radio cranking out the tunage into a hidden hi-watt receiver with ceiling mounted speakers.
Nice!

@sdmoore68 Pandora shuts off after a while if you don't give it any input, but for a while after the site was launched it didn't do that, it would just keep playing forever.
