Listening to your fave tunes while cavorting on a sun-splashed beach could get a lot more convenient if Finnish designer Pekka Salokannel has his way. His design concept for solar-powered Gram Speakers is patterned after old-timey gramophone record players from a century ago, but that outward appearance is where the similarity ends.
Charged up by three layers of solar panels, the batteries nestled inside will keep the music playing long beyond sunset. Change the volume with a touch of your finger, and then when it's time to call it a night, fold these babies up into a pocketable package. See how that works after the jump.
Great idea. Now if someone will just invent the technology to make this design a reality, it could be a huge hit.

This is an awesome idea. I would take these to the beach all the time if I had a set.

Why does this website keep posting articles on "conceptual" devices that don't even exist? Wouldn't it be better to report on new technology that is already in production and available now instead of writing articles on artists' "ideas of the future" that often can not even be supported with existing science?

I like a combo of conceptual and actual products to let me know what is up and coming. Why not? As long as we know what is what.

I like seeing the conceptual art, but it would be nice if in the title it was identified as conceptual, it would make it easier to tell for readers that are using RSS readers especially
