First lunar greenhouses planned for 2012

First lunar greenhouses planned for 2012

Believe it or not, but we may have our first gardens on the surface of the moon as soon as 2012. As part of Google's Lunar X Prize, Paragon Space Development Corporation and Odyssey Moon have developed pressurized greenhouses designed to grow a plant from a seed on the surface of the moon.

Obviously, figuring out how to grow plant life on the moon is the first step towards sending people to live on it and other planets. Once they figure this step out, they'll be able to produce food and oxygen, two things sorely lacking on the moon's surface. Then I'll finally be able to live there, at long last.

While I love the idea of moon habitats, I don't really think there will be much happening there unless some really valuable resources are found and a relitively cheap way to deliver said resources back to earth are developed.

In my lifetime I doubt the moon will ever have much more than handful of research stations and maybe some sort of prep-to-mars waystation.

there is actually a resource on the moon that is valuable to us may not be cheap to transport though i believe its called hydrogen 3 not to sure though i just know it comes from the sun and we cant get it on earth due to the atmosphere blocking it out some governments posess this and use it though

dyeguy45 your right H3 is on the moon and is vastly usable though i dont know the origins of it. but it could be the fuel of space till we learn other ways of power and propulsion.

Imagine the size of the tomatoes you could grow in the moon's lesser gravity!

Know what else would be cool to grow on the moon? X )
